LP CIRCUS ANIMALS SET: NEW TO THE BLOG

Well, its been LN LP Tuesday!

Not only did we have a cool new LN Mechanical Fish, now we have this full set of LP animals new to MC!

The Ebay listing says it was found in a retail box of four. The set comes boxed in a plain white carton and appears to have its own colourful background card, which I think portrays a circus.

This set contains lots of animals new to the blog and I can only assume that they are indeed LP. The set contains just 4 of the 10 known jazz band players.

Does anyone know anymore about this circus set or LP animals at all?

This set is listed by Its Sold Here in Pennsylvania, USA on Ebay.com as an IDL set.

Given the number of LN and LP toys we know about, including all these animals, it'd be great to have a full list with model numbers and small pics maybe. Some work has already been done and there's tons of info here on MC [labels and search!] and Paul Vreede's wonderful Triang SpaceX Toys website.

Anyone fancy doing it whilst we're in solitary?

THE LN MECHANICAL FISH: NEW TO THE BLOG!

Hope all is well. I am certainly learning a lot about old toys from MC. 

Further to the earlier post on toy divers, here is an old toy that I have had for at least 50 years. I do not know if you have covered it before, but I did spot the diver on another toy. 

This is the Mechanical Fish by LN, it is No.304, and has friction motion. It was made in Hong Kong. The main artwork features on two sides of the box, with assembly instructions on one side, and illustrations of No.305 Space Combat Car and No.303 Space Radar Car on the other side. I do not have any of these other toys.

The box illustrations do not exactly match the toy. The teeth are different, there are no scales, and the spine is different. The eyes appear to be lenticular, and have a ribbed clear plastic covering, so they appear to flicker depending on the viewing angle, but this no longer works. I have no idea why.

The toy comes tightly packed in its box, and the parts have to be attached to the body. They have to be removed again before putting the toy back, which has resulted in some of the fixing lugs breaking off. 

The main body comprises upper and lower halves in red plastic, with a separate cover for the friction motor. This seems odd, unless there was also a battery powered version that required a removable cover ? 

The separate parts are a red tail; clear windscreen (what is the proper term for a windscreen used underwater ? A waterscreen ?), silver-grey steering wheel, and a silver-grey diver - the inside of his arms and legs are flat. Overall length is about 190 mm. 

There are three black plastic wheels, the rear being narrower than the drive wheels. Moulded in to the underside, between the removable motor cover and the rear wheel are the letters LN in three concentric circles, along with MADE IN HONG KONG, and No.304.

It always reminded me of the Terror Fish in Stingray, although I never had any official Stingray toys.

I was always a fan of the Daily Mirror's The Perishers, in their heyday, drawn by Dennis Collins and written by Maurice Dodd. This is one of a series they did on the daleks.

NIGHT OF THE MOON

I took this earlier in the month and being an avid big box VHS collector it sort of reminded me of an old VHS cover for 80's schlocker Night of the Demon

Not to be confused with the quite brilliant 1950's monster film The Night of the Demon or The Curse of the Demon [US}. One of my fave monster flicks of all time.

SPIN POP CANDY: THAT'S ONE DIZZY BATMAN!

Since you are posting at a prodigious rate I'll send some 'silly' items I'm coming across now that I have time to go through all those cartons in our garage.

In the same box as some Japanese sweets in a round tin from the 70's was this item from the 90's.

The 'pop' had gone sticky and I had to clean his cape but here's the Animated Batman in the form of a motorised gobstopper turner.

I don't know how lazy kids were in the 90's that they couldn't rotate the stick but obviously one manufacturer catered for them.
