HOME MADE MOON BUGGY PILOT

The SpaceX Moon Buggy pilot is a strange looking fellow. A bit like a seated Aurora Big Frankie coloured silver!

I can't compete with SpaceX so I'll settle for a seated astronaut of any kind.

SpaceX did release another seated figure in the Moon Base HQ but it's tiny, so I looked in the Grandson's die-cast car box!

I'd donated an old die-cast go kart last year but he's not bothered about it. The driver will make a decent moon buggy pilot I reckon!

HOME MADE MOON BUGGY BODY

Step one in making my Moon Buggy is the body.

The original has a strange flat orange stick for a body a bit like an old cadburys chocolate dispenser on its back.

But I'm making a small version. Not a chocolate dispenser sized one.

So I thought of a whistle. I once had one from a Jet2 life-vest and remembered it had square holes in it like the Moon Buggy. I looked everywhere for it but I think I'd chucked it!

Looking for another one online I found this whistle on the Bay, which may just do the trick. Its flat, orange and has some square holes!

PROJECT MOON BUGGY: HOME MADE SPACEX

Inspired by a sudden waxing of Moon Buggy's in the interverse I thought I'd have a go at making one myself. This plan is spurred on the vision that I am never likely to own the Tri-ang SpaceX Moon Buggy ever.

In keeping with other mock toys I've made over the years I intend to build the buggy from scratch using household items. Some of these are in my house and some will have to be brought in. 

I shall keep you posted on progress.

New to the Blog: Paya Jeep Lunar Comando. Nº 350: A New Moon Buggy

Just discovered this old auction on Todocollecion for this amazing Jeep Lunar, the large Spanish toy by Paya similar to the SpaceX Moon Buggy.

Everything about this version is different. The boxart is simply wonderful don't you think? It reminds me of Project SWORD!

The wheels are much slimmer and the astronaut is lot more primitive looking.

And its clockwork!

The more common and presumably later version of this toy by Paya was remote controlled. Its been on Moonbase many time. Just click the label Paya or Moon Buggy below.

I've also realised that this Buggy is the one pictured in the 1970 toy catalogue I blogged the other day.

UNUSUAL STICKERS ON A MOON PROSPECTOR

I saw these unusual stickers on an old Century 21 Toys Moon prospector on auction this year.

The worn box lid has a rectangular sticker stating Q 27 5/1 I think and the toy itself has a small red sticker on the base reading 137.

What do you think they are readers?

Some of these Spanish covers look familiar.

Ciencia Ficcion often lifted art or photographs for their own covers so maybe you recognise something here readers?

SIXTEEN 12 THE EXILES

Some more photos from Sixteen 12 Collectables showing 'The Exiles' Episode set, which along with their Retrospective Eagle and New Adam New Eve sets is currently scheduled  to be released at the end of May.

The Exiles episode begins with the detection of a group of small cylindrical objects floating in space, which eventually go into orbit around the Moon . Sensors can't identify what's inside, so Koenig and Maya take an Eagle equipped with a manipulator arm and bring it back to Alpha.

It is taken to an underground facility near Alpha , and carefully opened to reveal the lifeless body of a humanoid!

   The Sixteen 12 model comes with a great looking detachable and highly detailed working manipulator arm. Here it is in action holding a nuclear fuel cell.

( I'm thinking this looks to be based the WARP pewter and resin accessory kit, which also came with a cryogenic pod and fuel cells.)

The model also comes with its own  posable spine mounted laser turret, another item that was previously released as a separate accessory as a garage kit.

The model comes its own detailed display plinth and Alpha moon buggy.

The Eagle Transporter comes with detachable passenger pod and machine turned aluminium and hand finished engine bells.

The now familiar great looking packaging . These models are turning out to be much sought- after collectables. They have a limited run of 1000 units and unsurprisingly are almost sold out due to pre-orders on the Sixteen 12 website. I think I read somewhere that there were 33 left as of May 2nd.
