ANNIVERSARY BOOKS: HARDBACK MOVIE TIE-INS FOR BEDTIME

I used to love collecting hardback modern movie tie-ins.

My only rule was that they needed to have the dustjacket.

There is something essentially satisfying about a hardback novel with its colour jacket in place.

Although I haven't read them all here are some of my fave finds.

Jaws. Read. Digested.

Callan Russian Roulette, not read. Watched the TV series with Edward Wooodwoodward as a kid. I remember a lightbulb?

Street Hawk, superbike TV series I never saw. You? [this is a paperback]

Firefox, not read. A Clint Eastwood superjet movie.

Marathan Man. Read. Grimaced.

Stars Dustin and the dentist as well as Roy Scheider who starred in Jaws.

Maybe this should have been called Gums.

BIRTHDAY LEGEND UPDATE: THE TRANSCONTINENTAL BUS USED AS A CENTURY 21 PROP

I've blogged about the Trans-continental Express friction toy many times.

Its a blog legend.

Alas I don't own one. Do you?

Released in the early 1960's by both OK and Telsalda and also available in Spain this long tin and plastic toy beauty was used like many other toys many times by Century 21 modelmakers as a versatile prop in Gerry Anderson's TV shows as far back as 1964 in Stingray.

All the various shows it appeared in are mentioned on different sites on the net so taking their cue I've tried to find video clips on You Tube of the toy's different incarnations. I've found four.

If you know of any more do lot me know please.

In the above video clip your'e looking for the fire tender that looks like the front long trailers and long vehicle in this modern model display below. You can see that the bus has virtually vanished under all the additions. These modern models were created from scratch by the super talented modeller Mike Delamar a few years ago.

Birthday Box Art: Tarheel SWORD Logos

Tarheel Industries of Tarbaro, North Carolina, USA released a line of project SWORD toys in the USA and Canada in 1967.

The photographic box art incorporated two types of Tarheel logo.

The globed T with the red SWORD arrowhead alongside as seen on this Moon Ranger box.

and the T with Kids as seen on this version.

There is a bootleg version of this box art largely released in Italy.

The Tarheel logo has been blacked out.
