laser disc anyone?

I never had a laser disc.

I experienced VHS from the get go but not laser disc.

I saw them though. In the shops. Like heavy LP's.

Did you ever watch any laser discs?

What was it like and does it still exist?

Did you ever collect crisps packets?

You know: Walkers, Monster Munch, Hula Hoops. All those.

I didn't as a kid but in the early 1990's I did a bit. I began to find old bags when I was out dog walking.

Crisp bags degrade slowly so there were a lot of them on wasteland, wind-blown and forgotten.

I was amazed what turned up: Jaws, Werewolf, Space Raiders and loads more. A little wash and presto!

Somewhere they're all nicely flattened in a large envelope in the attic. Somewhere!

Video too! Eagle-eyed Arto spotted the plastic Tarheel Nova spaceships in the central 'dome' display! There's also a Project SWORD Probe Force 3 in the first 'dome'!

Brian F's space ace

I must have missed the last conversation about Space Ace.

It was a video game designed by Don Bluth, a former Disney animator.

It followed his successful video game debut called Dragon's Lair.

There were various toys and other merch based on the characters.

I have home versions of these games for the Atari Jaguar system from the 90's as pictured.

I know we've talked about this before but just what is Space Ace? I keep seeing these types of toys online and think, what?

are you nostalgic about christmas smells?

The other night I was mysteriously transfixed watching the QVC TV channel, the one where stuff is sold to the wide-eyed audience.

Not something I usually watch but I found myself entranced by the Yankee Candle Christmas range that night.

What I found amazing were the number of different scents that Yankee Candle had plucked from the Christmas season: Christmas Cookies, Christmas Eve, Christmas Memories, Fireside Treats, Christmas Wreath, Christmas Cupcake, Christmas Magic, The Perfect Tree, Crackling Wood Fire and so on and so on.

Christmas it seems is an unending conveyor belt of spiced whiffs and niffs.

Is this how you have experienced Christmas? Do you think the passage of time magnifies the nose and remembered scents get stronger?

I certainly recall the resinous smell of the fir tree stood in the living room gently toasted by three sets of fairy lights. For me that is the over-riding bouquet of Yuletide and as such I am still very nostalgic about it I suppose.

In some ways it seems odd to burn a scented candle in order to evoke the fragrances [or should that be fragri?] of Christmas. Why not just have a real Christmas Wreath or some Christmas biscuits or toasted marshmallows? Why live the season vicariously through wax? Are we losing these artifacts from the Big Day and its build up? Are there new smells?

What are the Xmas fragrances you like? Which ones would you recommend to Yankee Candle? Are some lost in time?

All things Tomland by brian F.

I have always enjoyed the unique designs of the Tomland collection.

Here's a few pics, starting with 2 of the 3 3/4 inch Starroid Raiders proudly brandishing their weapons.

Next, it appears the 8 inch Oov has found his groove, giving Moonbase Central a hearty thumbs up. He is lacking his shirt,tie and lab coat, but I replaced them with Action Jackson's snazzy windbreaker.

Lastly,in the final photo of your article,I noticed the "Ferocious Fly"bears a resemblance to this rubber fly that came to me on an Easter Sunday encased in a clear plastic egg full of candy.

Here's a pic of him, missing a wing but otherwise looking good for his age of about 40 years!
