Sunday Ramble

Well it's Sunday morning here in the UK and nearly the mid-point of the May Bank Holiday weekend, Like all Bank Holidays some bits are great and some not so. I'm enjoying the peace and quiet before everyone else gets up and start mowing their lawns.

Browsing the web is always a pleasure and there are always a few surprises. I particularly liked this image of the Terrain Tiger ascending a mine road in this neat little diorama. Dave, the picture's owner, agreed last year to let me show it. You can see more of Dave's cool US site at Little Warriors Indy Blogspot.

Continuing the theme of US Terrain Tigers I did like the overall look of this photograph, which appeared on Ebay, showing our friend posing on a very slik mosaic top [ and the first lawnmower is whirring outside already and its not even 10 am yet! ]

I mentioned that there are always a few surprises online and this jumble of SpaceX and Apollo Moon Exploring is a case in point. Again from the 'Bay last month, it included one of our very own Bill B's favourites, the three legged flying dome saucer. Bill has mentioned it umpteen times on the blog over the years. More usually the little saucer is wheeled.

Moving over to Spain, this cute Molto Land Rover caught my eye on Todocolleccion, the Spanish marketplace. The car is the Spanish equivalent of the Land Rover which came with the JR21 Thunderbird 2 in the UK. I'm not sure if the Molto vehicle should have a windscreen. Anyone know?

Tomy Sears Apollo Rockets have been surfacing with regularity of late and I saw two in the space of a month on Ebay USA. They show the importance of condition to collectors as one damaged one went for £11 [ $20, left pic ] and the other £154 [ $260, right pic ]. The damaged one had a cracked motor housing and battery door, together with a missing on-off switch. Neither had the nozzle or parachute though!

RADIO CONTROLLED MOBILE ON FILM

While I didn't do any video filming at Andercon in favour of photos, I did shoot a couple of minutes of a smashing looking studio scale remote control Mobile as it whizzed across the carpet in the model section.

Sadly, I failed to get the name of the guy who was operating it, although I have to say he was pretty competent at steering the thing.

Anyway, I thought I'd cobble together a little film using up a few photos of the 'real ' Mobiles along with what little footage I had of the R/C one rather than just consigning it to the miscellaneous file.

I do hope you like it.

SPACE DIVER FROM ANDY B

Hi Woodsy,

Your recent post on the toy with the diver astride a space rocket reminded me of this flyleaf illustration from my battered "Amazing Stories" volume. This was produced in the 1950's but still available in the 1960's - I had a copy one Christmas. I suspect the idea of spacemen astride rockets was a common one at the time.

ANDERCON 2014: A LAST LOOK

As I come to the end of my look back at Andercon I find I've several photos  that fall into my miscellaneous, but interesting file.

There were several dioramas dotted around the con built by Andy Rolfe, this one obviously showing Thunderbird 1's cockpit.

This was a 40" Thunderbird 2  built by Ben's Model World.

A very authentic looking Com Lock. Real or replica? - The name on it gives it away. I'm sure it's the same person who built the concept tanks!

Count me in, Jamie. Until then I'll look forward to my next Anderson excursion at RAF Cosford taking place in a couple of weeks.
