Hello Woodsy,
As you are still eking out the money boxes for posts here's one more tin.
Made in England in the 50's, there were sold in Woolworths for years. There were three sizes I think, this being the smallest.

Almost every home I visited had one of these back then. People kept money to pay the milkman in them or similar household cash expenses.
Mine had a receipt for a suit purchased in 1968 and the key on a nifty Senior Service keyring in it.

Yes! Totally forgotten it, but I had one of these at school, I kept my Airfix HO's in it for a while!

Yep, I had one too Terran and Hugh. Not as deep though. Mine was superficial saving! A classic for sure. Every household must have had one back then!
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid we never had one.
ReplyDeleteMind you, we never had any money to put in it !
Mish.
Chicken and egg that Mish. Have tin, money appears!
Deleteer..we stil have one, and keep paid bills in it!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to ask where you keep your pennies then but I won't Andy!
DeleteFurther memories triggered - they had a pull-out 'cash-drawer' with three sections, which were - obviously - for wagon and gun wheels, wagon and gun parts and heavy-weapons and skis etc....!!!!

Great storage for a small scale worlder even then Hugh!
DeleteAs soon as I saw this photo I knew I had one of those tins. I spent some time rummaging through boxes of my parents things and eventually found it (I've added a small photo at this post: https://30squaresofontario.blogspot.com/2020/05/random-falconry.html ). I think it originally belonged to my grandmother, who came to Canada in the 1920s, so if these were manufactured in the 1950s, I assume one of her travelling friends gave it to her. I always enjoy what I find here. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteThanks JD. Its great to hear from you. Glad we helped trigger memories. Such a simple tin and yet everyone seems to have had one! Love your 30 Squares in the Summer Blog. Lovely subject matter and great articles. I must make sure Moonbase readers are made aware of it. Are you in Canada?
