ZERO-X By Aoshima and other Friends by Mike B

Woodsy - Regarding your post on the comparisons between the two Aoshima Zero X. I’ve got them both and the main differences are as Wote and Kevin pointed out, the slightly different colours and the lettering on the side.
The Thunderbird version has a Rock Snake while the Scarlet version has a poster [pictured below].

The Thunderbird MEV version has a retractable gun on the top, while the Scarlet version does not.
Yorkie was also spot on when he mentioned that a lifting body featured in a XL5 story – note only three engines on one side.
Another TV21 strip called ‘Front Page’, drawn by John M. Burns briefly featured Captain Black’s Zero X landing at Glenn Field.

I think the poster that comes with the Scarlet version is from the boxart of the rare larger Imai kit from the 60s.

The Aoshima diecasts are excellent. Got the Scarlet one myself. Love all the extras - the working escape pod, MEV retractable tracks, the lifting body and main body retractable wheels and the swing down wings on lift body 1 for take off and landing. Awesome!

I really must get myself an Aoshima Zero X! There's so many things on my wants list but it's nudging its way up!

Regarding the Zero X Lifting body on the XL5 story, I've been discusiing it with a friend just now. Will it have been one of the actual Zero X model parts used by Derek Meddings' team? Is the issue dated before the TB Are Go movie?

I'm sure you're right about the poster,Yorkie. I think I've seen it on the blog before.

I suppose it could have been a lifting body off one of the models, Woodsy, but it looks a bit narrow to me and apart from the missing engine there's a lack of numbering on one side of the wing. A bit of a mystery, eh!

Does anyone know the origin of this photo and the unusual decals of 'ZX26'? (click on my name to see photo) It has been suggested these were the original markings put on by Space Models before it when to Century 21 Productions for modification before filming but no-one seems 100% sure...

Shaqui, I don't know what the relevance of 26 is but what appears to be the same model in your picture is visible at different stages on the Master Models archive section of their website. I'll post the links on the blog. Can I post your picture too?

Mike, that OX lifting body chasing the XL5 is on a TV21 dated 3rd Dec 1966, just nine days before the release of the film Thunderbirds Are Go. Its well documented that the main fibreglass model of Zero X [the Master Models one?] was comp0letely destryoed in the film so which lifting body did they use for this TV21 cover? It could of course have been taken months before during filming of TB Are Go but yes, a mystery. Just how many Zero-X models were made, which sort of links to Shaqui's mystery photograph. Wonder if Mr. Meddings says anything about this in 21C Visions?

and Shaqui, love the Front Page section of GACCH! Thanks for the link.
