My old Crash Tender (sans suspension!) cant tell what colour the cannon is, its been to too many bad landings now, the colour has faded. Accompanied by a Husky Police Car, think my Pa must have overlooked the Matchbox one that year..
The wonderful Sbow Trac, sans tracks.
That old stalwart, the Stalwart. Still got the uellow clip on cover somewhere, but couldnt put my hand on it in a rush. Next to it is a modern Majorette Amphibie.
And finally, the wonderful Autotanker fleet complete with my dads 45 year old paint job.
PS - Keep meaning to mention, I had a plastic Stawart Tanker as a kid, made by Clifford, it was a garish red body, yellow tank and racing green wheels. Think it had 'Petrol' written on the side and was friction driven and about 6 inches long. Molding was good, even down to the little hatches on the cab roof. Anyone ever seen one ?
Absolutely brilliant Wote, thank you!
ReplyDeleteThose Tate And Lyle tankers are the ones I remember...they were favourites of mine. Not sure what it was about them but they certainly had something going on!
Toad was right, that is the coal truck I had. I wasn't sure from the picture at the link Toad gave, but seeing them in colour leaves me in no doubt they are the ones. I had a red one!
Thanks again, I just love seeing pictures of these old cars and trucks, it is incredibly evocative of happy years past!
Ed - im pleased you spotted them so fast! Im covered in dust and dead flies out of the loft! Theres plenty more to show, both cars and catalogues, so if theres anything else you mihgt like to see, Ill endeavour to find it!
ReplyDeleteLovely stuff, Wote. It really is putting me in the mood to replace a few of my lost matchbox memories.
ReplyDeleteFunny thing was i loved tankers as a kid and have got loads of them. Next to an astronaut, thats what i wanted to be! Here I am nearly fifty years on, still earthbound and cant drive - what the hell happened! ?
ReplyDeleteBesides the two Sugar tankers, theres a pair of blue foden flatbeds with Ever Ready livery. My dad picked up one of each of the same model, because like the Tankers, they have different colour wheels. I can see now where my variation hunter streak comes from!
ReplyDeleteExpect more Matchbox, Husky, Corgi Rockets and Whizwheels soon..
Covered in dead flies and dust? I'd say that your'e an atticonaut or in russian, loftonaut!
ReplyDeleteYou got me at it now Woodsy!
ReplyDeleteAs Wote has been looking out lorries and tankers, maybe he's a Cargonaut!
Apologies...lol.
Funny how different the tanker looks with the 'chin' painted the same colour as the sides!
ReplyDeleteCovered in dead flies and dust? Think it actually means he needs a hose down in't back yard.
