MEKS BY WELO: ACTION MAN GOING COMMANDO

I'm always fascinated by the sheer number of Action Man style accessories that appeared around the world in the 70's. I don't collect them but I think I could if I tried.

Spurred on by Big Jim, Action Jackson and other actions dolls, many more toy companies jumped onboard and released their own accessory ranges.

Here's a Medic set from another company's range, MEKS by German outfit Welo in the 1970's. They issued lots of carded sets and they are no doubt popular with German collectors especially but I'm sure have wider Action Man appeal.

Have you come across Weks by Welo or other Action Man type toys? Are these knockoffs would you say?

Grand Visitors' Remnants

 

Our Grandkids, Moonbase Junior and Lil Miss have been and gone, leaving us with lovely signs of childhood all over the house. I don't really want to tidy them away.

WHAT A MICKEY MOUSE TRIKE!

I was amazed at the effort toy designers had gone to making this bike I saw on Todocolleccion.

There's an entire Mickey Mouse fishtank attached the handlebars. In fact Mickey gets a front seat view of the driveway. he looks like he's on a space mission!

DOG DAYS ON THE MOONBASE

School's out for the summer thank God and the livin is suddenly easy on Moonbase.

 The weather's pleasantly warm after last week's scorching sunburst here in Blighty. Returning to a cooler garden the Grandkids have been busy harvesting early summer vegetables like apples and cucumbers and selling them us on their 'market'! 

Junior and me have discussed making a space pak too, like the one carried by the Gemini astronauts. We have an old canister from an abandoned dehumidifier and a discarded washing machine pipe. 

Put together they really do look the part like the portable support unit on the Project SWORD annual cover [which looks more like an old car battery charger than anything]- did you have that book as a kid?

Some straps might even turn it into an astronaut's chest pack like the one Action Man had when I was a kid. Did you have this cool outfit [picture from flickr]?

Currently me and Junior are watching The Wizard of Oz, whilst Little Miss has an afternoon kip. What I hadn't realised was that the characters Dorothy meets in Oz are all characters she knows on her farm in Kansas! Its an amazing movie although my Grandson is still making his mind up I think!

Do you like the Wizard of Oz? Ever had any collectables. I had a Mego Dorothy about 10 years ago, found abandoned in a Reading charity shop!

I was reading about what's canon and what's not in the world of Star Wars. I think the Star Wars Holiday Special from the late Seventies isn't canon.

How does this come about? Being in and out? Is a decision by fans?

Does such a thing exist in the worlds of Gerry Anderson? A canon?
