Airships and Saucers

These are unusual toy spaceships. Remote controlled or sound controlled, they appear to have similar designs. 

The Red Astronef is described as an airship.

The white Space Ship can be shot at using the sound pistol.

REMOTE CONTROL MOON RANGER

This Moon Ranger appeared on Ebay earlier in the year and is another Project SWORD toy that has been adjusted with a remote control and wire.

We've seen a few of these adjustments over the years. I believe that they are home improvements rather than anything official in the factory. I can imagine that the remote control just made it more fun rather than reaching for the awkward on-off switch at the side of the toy.

BRINGING BACK SOME TRIK-TRAK

 The Missus and me have been on our first post-Easter rummage ramble today.

There were some highs and some lows.

The lows were waiting an hour for our ordered lunch in a cafe, after which we cancelled and left; the cost of parking going up to 90p for two hours and some stuff in one antiques joint way overpriced, namely a Galaxy Warriors Lion figure at £40 loose and 2 loose Tonka Supernaturals with a pile of accessories at £30. No chance.

The highs: we got the last 60p car parking slot and picked up a few nice bits, namely some cute vintage matchboxes [still full of matches!] and a tin the Missus loved for £4 the lot.

Some cheapo Timpo-style Western figs and a couple of dinos for a Squid.

4 loose Hot wheels for £2 at a craft/ second hand market; pink Double Demon 1988, yellow Megadestroyer 1982, 2002 Super Chromes Dodge Van reissue and to make up the 4, Wild Thing 2002.

Catch of the day had to be this 1960's Triang/ Transogram Dare Devil Trik-Trak boxed set for £8. It looks complete and the box is huge. Maybe a few rips, scuffs and biffs to the box and parts but it looks great. To be road tested later this week. Is this a toy you had readers?

I did walk past life-size kids' 2003 Jakks WWF Wrestling belts in a charity shop, two of them for £4. Maybe I should have got them. Oh, and I passed a huge black RC Dodge Charger monster car from Fast and Furious [no remote] at £3.

All in all, a decent West Yorkshire stroll.

Another Star Cruiser I like is this space car by Reel.

Its got that real sleek look that catches the eye.

Its remote control too.

Is this something you would have liked under the Christmas tree?

REMOTELY CONTROLLED IN THE WINDY CITY

I dunno, there's just something about this Italian vintage toy Chicago police car by Ellegi. Seen online, I think its the overall shape and Dick Tracy-style graphics that appeal to me.

There's a feel of Blade Runner about it too.

Is it based on a real Italian car?

COCKTAILS ON THE UPPER DECK!

 I'm currently off work with a stinker of a summer cold, so to keep me on an even keel in between sneezing fits I've been touching up my new but incomplete Nikko Fire Boat.

Ever the bodger I've looked for low-tech kitchen-drawer solutions to missing parts and hey presto, we have ...... operation cocktail stick [I prefer that to toothpick!]

They were very easy to cut to size and glue in position!

After testing a red sharpie and a red paint pen I opted for the paint pen and set to work painting the new wooden stick rails.

A little new chroming on the water canon and a bit of general spit and polish and we're ship shape.

What do you think?

I may add a thin coat of PVC glue to the new painted rails to give them a more plasticy look but that'd be icing on the cake. I could actually use icing! ha ha

Without a remote I can't test it's motor but for now the refurbed Fire Boat will be in dry dock.

As an aside, venturing into the attic yesterday I found one of the very first bits of toy bodging I ever did, probably 30+ years ago. Its a Beatles Corgi Yellow Sub periscope made from Fimo. It looks awful but it was a lot of Fab Four fun at the time! A true relic from my early thirties, I was amazed its still around.

Hope Tony's Fimo Dredd doesn't Judge it too harshly!

NIKKO FIRE BOAT RESCUE ATTEMPT

 I picked up this Nikko Fire boat at the weekend, a bargain at £4.

There is some damage; the windscreen is partly missing, there are missing red handrails and there's no remote control.

I thought I'd have a 'crack' at the damaged windscreen. After removing the glue holding it in I filed down the jagged edges of the split.

Placing the filed screen on it to measure up, I then cut out the 'missing' corner-side from an old plastic lid [don't tell the Missus!]

The new parts were glued in position and the whole screen was put back into place on top.

Nor perfect but it'll do!

Next up, the missing red rails.

THE HORNET AND THE SCOUT

I've stitched together two of the pictures to make it easy to see; what a sleek neat craft!

By comparison here's my beloved Project SWORD Scout 2, which I adored as a kid.

Any similarity ends there though if any at all! 

The Scout 2, being one of the three smallest SWORD toys, could fit on your palm, whereas the 

Hornet Owl is huge! Have a look at the assembly video on the maker's page. How cool is that!

RADIO CONTROL SPV

 I didn't realise that there was a radio control SPV toy available. Here's a short video by Gadget Labo showcasing its looks and insides. There's a size comparison with the C21 SPV too I think. The radio controlled action is at the end.

Large Scale Remote Control Chinook

Hi

I thought you would enjoy this incredible large scale Radio Controlled Chinook being flown indoors, at an event in Germany. Sorry, no background information, but it looks as though it might be plastic, so I assume a commercially produced model ?  Really beautiful.
