Tamiya Apollo 1 Copycats

I saw an Aoshima Apollo rescue vehicle kit. Googling led me to a history of NASA rescue vehicles and I nearly choked when I saw one that looked exactly like my beloved Tamiya Apollo 1 tank!

It was only on further reading, that I discovered it was a 1990s design, so a case of Life imitating Art, instead of the other way around!

The 1968 Tamiya Apollo 1 Concept Kit

Featured on the Tamiya Blog this Apollo 1 is one of those designs I find breathtakingly gorgeous.

Its clean lines, angled window and belt of wheels is stunning and the kit captures the concept perfectly.

Tamiya Box Art Book

I found this excellent video on You Tube. A page by page look through a book on Tamiya kit artwork.

It is the artwork itself, mostly the art from the White Box era, rather than actual box tops. There are also a few full paintings.

Figures, artillery, military vehicles, aircraft, and ships are all covered. The text is in both Japanese and English, with a couple of pages on the artists.

APOLLO 1: THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SPACE KIT VEHICLE EVER?

This Tamiya Apollo 1 kit I saw online has to be one of my favourite space concept vehicles. Its so darn slick and really quite beautiful in its design. I love the angular lines and the windscreen. Very Syd Mead.

TAMIYA FLYING SALADIN: MANY TANKS

I just love the box art on this 1960s vintage Tamiya 1/35 British Armoured Car Saladin MK-2. Much better than the bland white background on their modern kits.

The vehicle is literally flying through the air, so I guess it belongs to an airborne unit ? The real Saladin was over 11 tons, so this one must have been really travelling to reach take-off speed.

I do not know what the correct order is for the box art styles, but both are likely from the 1960s.
