This 1985 Earth Force Flight Team figure is all new to me. By Pace, this is Major Blaster Barton. He looks a lot like He-Man to me!

Masters of the Lazerforce

The allure of thick thigh muscles was a powerful force in action figures after He-Man flexed his pecs. 

Mattel struck gold with their figures and countless companies copied suit. Sun gold was one and here's their Lazerforce.

The gold mask could be straight off the film Zardoz! 

I've never seen this line in the flesh but I can imagine they're mightily collectable.

And why not strip away all the muscles and create Skull Force!

 I do love a good knockoff and a mega hit like Masters of the Universe spawned many a tacky He-Man. Here's a few I've seen this year.

MARCHIN' ROUND THE ARCH WITH FRANKIE AND HE

 Before the Autumn squalls arrive this afternoon the Missus and me squeezed in a Sunday car boot down at Thorpe Arch in Wetherby.

Always a lot of decent stalls with proper family booters rather than rows of new goods traders, its always a good morning at Thorpe Arch. There were some Millennials toy dealers - always good to see a new generation into pop culture toys - but despite their fine modern wares - like a Japanese Star Wars white blaster - being a retired pauper, the prices were just too high for me.

My own somewhat inexpensive catch of Yorkshire bargains was as follows:

Back row: Modern He-Man and Skeletor and 12 inch Unknown male doll dated 1995 China.

Back but one:: Modern Action Man battle vest, 1997 Burger King Frankenstein, DIY Big Underpants,

Middle: Funko Wolverine?, bat pencil topper? 1985 Action Force Wild Hunter Jeep

Next: Coffin Hot Wheels for Junior at Halloween, PAPO Phosphorescent Scalliwag, Hot Wheels 80's roadster, Unknown Police action figure.

Front: Letrabots and Number Bots.

The 12 inch male doll came like this, with an Action Man plastic vest and cloth hoodie, together with home-made underpants!

It says 1995 SF on his neck, Made in China on his waist. This is he, below, in his true form. He's too cute for an Action Man!

I'm pleased with old Frankie boy. He's a 90's Burger King monster, which I remember well. Do you?

Here's that unknown Police action figure, rather cheapo but rather quaint. Any ideas who he is?

Oh, and picked up a well-thumbed Stingray annual from the 60's. He-Man has his eye on that Terra -Fish too! is it an annual you had or have?

With Summer coming to an end, I have made an effort to visit nearby beach resort towns like Wildwood and Ocean City, New Jersey.

THE SQUAT THICKENS: BIG THIGHS AND BENDED KNEES!

 I'm enjoying looking for and finding knockoff wrestlers from the 80's and 90's at the mo.

In fact any action figure with those classic Masters of the Universe big thighs and bent knees wherever possible or if not, obvious wrestler knockoffness.

With a little patience at boot sales the bendy fellas give themselves up. Its great fun tracking them down and more often than not there are always one or two at a sale and its reassuring to come home with a result.

THE SKELETOR MONSTER TRUCK!

Here is another addition to my Monster Truck collection. In recent years there have been a number of die-cast Monster Trucks with a film, TV, or comic book tie-in. This one is a Hot Wheels model, and features Skeletor, from the Masters of the Universe. A series of toys, comics, cartoon adventures, and movies, dating from the 1980s.

Hot Wheels have done several Masters of the Universe models in their premium lines, and this 2022 Monster Truck.

The main colours are purple, for the chassis, hood, and truck bodywork; light green for the face, and light blue for the engine. The wheel hubs are more of a fuchsia colour. The eyes are red-tinted clear plastic. Only the face and hood are metal, the rest is plastic. A demonic-looking ram's head (with red-painted eyes) in the back has a chain coming out of its mouth, with a studded ball on the end.

The Hot Wheels name appears on the tyres, with Mattel, the Hot Wheels ribbon logo, and Made in Thailand, on the chassis.

Skeletor appears down the right side of the backing card. Also included is a small, red car in hard plastic that you can drive over again and again. It has pins and holes that allow several cars, from different models, to be joined together.

NOISTALGIA BOOM FOR THE 1980's?

There appears to be a nostalgia boom for all things 1980's including toys. 

The brands that were massive back then seem to be making a comeback and may have indeed never really gone away.

At Moonbase Junior's recent 5th birthday party the presents from all his family and friends were largely new releases of 80's TV toy brands and some even older brands like Hot Wheels.

In no particular order we had a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles dress-up costume, a Playmobil Mars Mission space station, a Hot Wheels mega garage, a set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures, re-issues of Mattel's Masters of the Universe figure range namely He-Man, Skeletor and Battle Cat.

The food was equally retro with Space Raiders and a fantastic Hot Wheels birthday cake a local cake maker made.

Will these old 1960's and 1980's brands last forever do you think?

Is there a similar appetite for 1980's music, books, video games and comics?

TOYS I HAD TEN YEARS AGO

A glimpse of treasures I once had in my loft on the 11th September 2008. Four days later I started this blog!

What a Christmas morning these toys would make!

All part of my Ebaying and Toy Fairing back in 2008.

A MOTU boxed set - I think it was the Slime Pit - I found mint boxed at a car boot and a He-Man Starship Eternia I bought in a roughed-up box from the clearance shelves of Toys R Us. On top is a boxed Captain Laser I bought as an investment for my toy fair stall from Ebay back in its early days in the UK.

In the bottom shelf is a tinplate remote-controlled James Bond DB5 I found amongst dumped furniture in a German street in 1981.

Next to it is a large mystery action plastic VW Beetle from a boot sale I think.

I think the two games are Risk and Railroader. I adored finding games at boot sales more than anything.

I think the Beetle is all that's left now ten years later!

Talking of the Green Slime on the radio put me in mind of a boxed set I once found at a car boot sale in the Nineties, the He-Man Evil Horde Slime Pit Playset by Mattel.

LOFT PROFITS: HE MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE: BUT ARE THEY SPACE TOYS?

One of the biggest toy lines of the Eighties, He-Man and MOTU as it's known to collectors, was a joy to find at boot sales. Usually it would be brace of fine loose figures and very occasionally a boxed toy like the Slime Pit or the Fright Zone. If you found the Eternia Playset you could retire! I'm still working.

MOTU toys were often nuzzling up against Ghostbusters and Thundercats stuff and, aside from the ubiquitous Star Wars merch, the three of them formed the holy trinity* of 80's action figure lines and would appear downstream at the same time at boot sales a few years later. Anyone else collect MOTU readers?

* Ninja Turtles and GI Joe could also be seen as Eighties biggies but for me it was the three lines I mention. Which were the big 80's toys for you readers?
