On The Buses Collectors DVD Bus

The On the Buses set contained 11 DVDs – and came in a special plastic case in the shape of a double decker bus, packed within a cardboard window box which showed off the contents.

 I remember seeing this in the shops, but thought it was a bit expensive.

The bus was large, and moulded in green plastic. According to the box top it had working lights, moving wheels (green hubs, with black tyres), a figure of driver Stan Butler (Reg Varney) in the cab, and the sets were individually numbered.

It was a model of the Bristol Lodekka bus used in the series. From the packaging, it appears the upper deck was hinged along one side, allowing access to the 11 DVDs within.

The bus carried the markings of the Luxton District bus company, which Stan worked for. The side panel had the series title On The Buses, along with caricatures of the regular cast members.

Windows and interior detail were printed on. Trim was black and cream.

I could not find any photos of the bus model itself, just of the boxed set. The only listings I found for this carry the name Beyond Home Entertainment, which is an Australian company.

So, was this set unique to the Australian and New Zealand Market – DVD Region 4 ? It was certainly available in NZ.

On the Buses: How Terranova47 Got To School

Hello Woodsy

For infant school it was a Hornsey Council owned Bedford OB bus painted gray.

From age 8 Junior school was by a London Transport Trolley bus.

From age 12, Secondary Modern was by the same Trolleybus route only three times the distance.

In 1962 Trolleybuses ended and were replaced by Routemasters.

There were no instances of being locked in a box? London buses didn't have them.

For London Transport from 1959 we had bus passes so only had to pay the fare first day of term.

My daughter growing up in NYC attended her three schools by the Number 6 route subway.

Ed's Buses: More!

Woodsy and Fellow Moonbasers,

Further to Terra's excellent post on tin buses, here's the ones that ended up at Vegas Base.

 My goal at first was to find buses that would either go well on an O-gauge toy train layout or, would look good when used with my toy soldiers, but they are such beauties that I did buy a couple that were way larger (like the HTC SceniCruiser which I sold off years ago).

 I have been collecting toys since '91 and my collector's tendrils have found their way into many a nook and cranny 😁 I can literally send Woodsy many terabytes worth of photos taken over the years.

TERRANOVA47's Tin Buses

We've had a wonderful assortment of tin planes, mostly from Ed which prompted me to take some bus pictures after finding a Tin Bus I had forgotten about.

It's the Greyhound version of the MODERN BUS by Black Cat, made in Taiwan. That is only cost $3.69 puts it back in the 1970's and is powered by two C batteries.

Then a Greyhound Bus and a Trailways one, unknown manufacturer, Made in Japan. Unpowered.

Now if like me you remember Tri-ang Minic toys then the London Double Decker, Push n' Go,

 star of Hitchcock's movie Lifeboat is here to

hold up the end for British Tin Toys.
