There's a whole flotilla of OVNI toys and here's another one all new to me, a beautiful set with a gorgeous conical capsule reminiscent of the Invaders UFO:

Oh Man! Monta-Man

 I love these Monte-Man miniatures. 

Plastic novelties along with a small poster. 

This model has something of a hover speeder about it.

And this green saucer is nifty, with its opening top.

The figures remind of if Action Jacks or Matchbox MACs.

Memories of the 1970 Mexico World Cup

I'm not a football fan at all, but the World Cup always gives me the chance to indulge in my nostalgia for Brazil.

I watched them play bonnie Scotland last night. 

The magic was still there. The Brazilian flair that I remember so well from my childhood, because when I was 9 I saw perhaps the greatest football team ever re-invent what we then called soccer into what we now call the beautiful game. All down to one team.

Brazil.

It was the Mexico World Cup 1970.

I think my folks got their first colour TV for it. I half-recall neighbours being round to see the spectacle too.

And boy, was it one. I can still picture the vibrancy of Brazil's yellow shirts in the blazing Mexican sunshine. I'd never seen sunlight or colour like it. It was as if someone was throwing neon rainbows over the whole thing. 

It wasn't just Brazil in colour. It was their sensational style of play. They were simply brilliant. Fluid, graceful, quick. Nothing like the drab matches my old Dad sat through on the old, albeit, black and white TV. Someone had switched the sun on and set the style dial to max!

I was mesmerized by that team.

But more than this, for me at least, it was the Brazilian players' names that have stayed with me the longest. I'm 65 now and can still recite most of them I reckon. 

Here's but a few: 

Tostao, Jazhninio, Rivelino, Albert and of course, Pele.

It was as if they had but one name, not two like us boring Brits. And many ended in io like Jazhinio. Exotic was not the word. 

There was one that didn't sound like the rest I remember, so I had to look it up last night.

Gerçon. 

Of course!

Yep, Brazil, Mexico World Cup 1970. It was a wonderful childhood experience and watching the modern team retrieved a little bit of that Seventies magic for me.

No collectables. Just memories.

There's something ape-like about that face and the long arms. Old Bambo definitely has mecha-Kong vibes aplenty.

I like this Brazilian toy saucer. It's by Electronica Kodama. There's something almost Moon Prospectorish about this coloured discs.

I found this snippet interesting. A 1970 World Cup Panini sticker album coming out of the garage and into auction.

I never had one of these but I remember the Brazilian team so clearly from watching it on telly at the time. My folks got a colour TV for the occasion, a huge expense at the time. I remember neighbours coming round to watch matches.

That Mexico World Cup was captivating to me and probably a lot of kids. Every game seemed to be bathed in glorious sunshine and the football appeared to be magical, as if played by Supermen.

Brazil were the inspired team of the Cup, the most brilliant footballers any of us had ever seen. Blessed with Olympian grace and speed, Brazil were on another level altogether.

Their fantastic skills were equalled by enthralling names that sounded like their first names and we all felt sure they didn't

have a surname. Supreme beings with a single name: Tostao, Rivelinho and the glorious Jarziniho. Even Gerson sounded

exotic in such company.

Mexico 1970 was a high point in soccer for me. At age 9 it got me interested.

I supported Leeds United after it was all over, another gifted generation. I bought Shoot comic religiously and collected football cards.

It didn't last, my love of football. By age 11 it was all over

I actually quite like it, its snub nose and rear wings. I like the box art too. 

The toy looks like its a die-cast. What do you think?

ESTRELA SPACE RIFLE 1969 FROM BRAZIL

Now get a load of this, one of the most beautiful space toy rifles I have ever seen. Repeated a few times on MC this example is the only one I have ever come across. What do you think?

ESTRELA ROBO COM TELE VALIGURSKY BOX ART

I got excited about this rare Estrela robot when I first blogged it years ago

This Brazilian Horikawa-Estrela robot is the only one I know with Ed Valigursky Spacex-related imagery on the chest TV and the box.

There's a Booster Rocket on the box front and a MEV-2 on the TV!

But this is only the second decent box, albeit a repro on Ebay, I've seen on all sides online, I think, so I saved the pics.

Its this side that's just brilliant.

Closer we can now see that its the MEV-2 and the Booster Rocket on the side.

How cool is that!

SPACE TOYS FROM BRAZIL

Here are a couple of interesting items I recently spotted on Mercado, the Brazilian online marketplace. First up is what appears to be a miniature version of a Cragstan space rover. Can't think of its name but this Brazilian one is called MANEUVER. Not sure if the other space items actually go with the rover, they look like generic NASA space toys.

Second toy is this, ALPHA EXPLORERS. Its a boxed base set of re-packaged Explorer 12 toys, which we've seen before on the blog and are a favourite of Bills. They really do go well with SpaceX toys. Not sure if this boxed set was specifically for Brazil: all the main text is in English so its unlikely. Anyone got any more Alpha Explorers?

PS. for some reason I'm seeing Manta Force in the look of these Alpha Explorers/ Explorer 12 toys. Is there a connection between the two lines?
