The recent posts by Arto and Scoop regarding the Adventure Annual (and others) were fun.

 I too have a copy of the Adventure Annual and some of the toy-inspired characters and spaceships I have in my collection. Pictured.

 However, now it looks as if I need to track down the Cheriliea figures!

Ed's Archer Satellite Men

Not too long ago, after a ten-year hiatus collecting these, I finally completed my collection of Archer's 4" Satellite Men. 

Introduced between 1954-55, they were soft vinyl plastic copies of Archer's Men of Mars series (which were cast in hard plastic). Many people also call these Archer slot-hand spacemen, as they had slots in their hands to accommodate accessories which came with them.

 The figures are relatively easy to find, the accessories not so much. 

There were six different poses in a variety of colors, six 'Scientific Weapons', and six 'Astro Pacs', all of which I'll start blogging in a new series starting tomorrow.

STRIKE A POSE BUCK!

 Ed's Archeresque parachutist reminded me of how much I like those old Buck Rogers book cover illustrations with similarly strange and endearing poses as those Archer figures.

My favourite Buck pose is this.

Arms and one knee bent, head looking down in a gas-powered ascent.

At once unreal yet oddly hypnotic, I wonder where this kind of art came from?

Another, even more awkward posture is this, as Buck grabs the top of a tree. It just looks so odd.

Archer Ajax figures are posed in similar ways, which is hard to describe. Is it Art Deco?

Just what are these poses readers?

FOUR THOMAS SPACEMEN

 I saw these on Etsy or Ebay earlier in the year and thought I'd save the pics because these spacemen are new to me.

Described as Thomas Spacemen I really don't think I've seen them before. They look intriguing too.

This first one is like a gunslinger with cowboy style trousers.

This one has a sort of duck face, almost Tusken Raider. The weapon looks like a Third Reich stick grenade!

This third one is more classically Buck Rogers-ish or Flash Gordon.

This final one has a lovely blue sheen and looks female, with a hint of Metropolis's Maria maybe.

Anyone know anything about Thomas spacemen?

ARCHERS? NO. ASTRONAUTS!

This bag of Archer type spacemen caught my eye. The header card is striking and unusual. I've seen the ship before but I can't think where. I did think it was home-made at first but it says Made in Hing Kong in the bottom left corner. Its just unusually uncluttered for a header and lacks much lettering of any kind except for Astronauts.

What do you think?

I noticed these Archer spaceman slot-hand repro parts online.

The looped parts reminded of old plastic bag loops.

they came in two parts with a loop and a seperate collar.

For the life of me I can't find any pictures of these old loops!

They'd be cheaper than repro parts!

The Christmas 1953 issue of "Space Times" has a drawing of the Archer spacemen and a "Rocket Bank" that I had as a boy!
