Academy King Moguras

Hi Woodsy,

I first saw this on Ebay, and then via research, elsewhere on the web. At the End of February, Acadamy models in South Korea did a reissue release of the King Moguras Space Tank from earlier decades. 

The model kit is motorized and comes with led lighting.

I also derived from exploring Instagram, YouTube, and other internet posts and blogs (translated from Korean). Acadamy's kits of even older Japan design space vehicle models (Beetle and Vanguard) are planned for reissue as well in the coming year. I'm excited!

I do not know how many of these kits will be directed to shops in Europe or the states, or if this is a "Korea only" type of release. I'm buying mine through a seller in S. Korea. When contacted, The US distributor knew nothing of the release.

What a fabulous job Century 21 did of this prop vehicle. It looks so damn fabulous on the ocean and in the swamp!

Ed's Hong Kong - No. 214A Vanguard

I know these quick-fit kits from an as yet unknown manufacturer from Hong Kong have been featured on Moonbase before, but I recently got around to assembling the two that I have which are the Vanguard and Echo Car (I'm missing the Moguras tank). Mine gave me a few fits with parts that didn't want to snap together as they should, requiring a bit of filing. Other parts were very loose and sit on the vehicle at odd angles. The hull halves no longer mate perfectly, and there are small gaps. However, on a positive note, these are sized pretty darned good for Tri-ang, LP, or 25mm figures. I'll send photos of the Echo Car in a separate e-mail later today or tomorrow.

I've always loved this driller mole design. I saw this one on eBay so saved the pic. 

I remember seeing one like it as part of the Echo Cars range, the Moguras.

I saw this mostly Japanese bundle of old space plastic on auction and thought Wow! There's Vanguards - we used to see these a lot on the blog - and more in there, together with Flying Sub and a Spindrift mini-models.

Hi guys,

Love your blog. Unfortunately, it's got me hooked on a lot of space toys I did not know existed. Been collecting robots and other things over the years until I discovered your blog. 

The L.P. toys, Spacex ,their variations, Giant Plastics spacemen, etc. have become favorites of mine also. 

 I found these "candy store" little spacetank variations on Yahoo Japan of the classic Japanese space tank "Vanguard". The original tank was first released as a model kit by Midori in the 60s. 

 These little toy spacetank versions are in perfect scale with the Spacex and L.P. toys. They feature working spring loaded missiles. I have picked up a few for modification for my dioramas.

WE LOVE VANGUARDS

We love Vanguards at MC. It would have made a brilliant Project SWORD or SpaceX toy. Popular around the world, PAYA produced a gorgeous white one, centre left above. Its stablemate in the Spanish PAYA range, the Zancudo, top left nearly made it when it surfaced as the Lunar Climber in the Century 21 Toys range.

Japan loves Vanguards too. There's loads of them in kit form. A van load! Here's one I saw on You Tube. Could be MIDORI but I'm unsure? Looks superb! Funny how people always test toys on beds!

My own favourite Vanguard is the little Quick Fit Kit miniature, box art pictured below, which is a beaut and even has little SpaceX backing card-like illustrations on the box sides. Now that's given me an idea!
