LPUFO

I had to look twice at these on an auction last year. 

Larger LP astronauts, they've been painted in the style of UFO spacemen and rather well I reckon.

What do you think?

Won't Get Fuelled Again: 2!

With Looey's comment in mind re. The Soviet vehicle in UFO I remembered I posted this way back in 2011, 15 years ago! I was a mere 50 back then and just started a new job in a High School!

Over Easter I treated myself to Derek Medding's superb book, 21st Century Visions, which was going for a song on Amazon. I wasn't dissapointed and have been poring over it ever since. One of the vehicles mentioned is the Russian surface rover shown above [bottom left and right]. It appears in the 1973 episode of UFO called The Responsibility Seat, which you can watch via You Tube.

Around the same time I was also lucky enough to take possession of an Apollo Moon Exploration boxed set, [pictured top right along with a US catalogue ad], which I've been after for years. Inside is a nifty red fuel tanker [pictured top left], which also came carded as part of the 1970 Apollo Moon Exploring range [pictured top centre].

I couldn't help but notice a similarity between the UFO Russian moon rover and the Apollo fuel tanker. Or am I just seeing things as per usual?

UFO Code 3 Truck

 I'm always intrigued by the choices Code 3 makers make.

I can completely imagine the excitement they must feel when the idea comes to fruition and the completed project sits in front of them.

This UFO truck and trailer I saw on eBay must have been great to see finished with it's long custom box.

It sits well with the other UFO vehicles in the true fleet in the auction picture.

I assume it's in the show. Is that right?

UNIDENTIFIED FLYING GRENDIZER

 

I like this auctioned carded Grendizer set for a couple of reasons.

First of all it looks fantastic and I would have loved it as a kid!

Second I like the UFO branding, which I assume is coincudental and nothing to do with the Gerry Anderson series. 

Even so, the pistol even does have a look of the Echo UFO gun we've covered a few times on MC. The toy Echo gun was connected to Gerry's TV show!

A SCRAMBLE FOR PROSPECTORS

I liked these Aoshima Moon Base Interceptors lined up and ready for action on a Japanese modelling site.

Even better are these two miniature colourful interpretations of Project SWORD vehicles, namely the Prospector and the Scramble Bug. The UFO SHADO3 ain't bad either!

MYSTERIES IN THE BLISTER: UFO RACK TOY SETS

 I've blogged these before.

I've still only ever seen them online,

UFO, Mysteries of the Universe and Visitors from Outer Space.

Like a Sci-Fi Polly Pocket, these plastic flying saucers come with a gaggle of aliens and a gadget or two.

A classic rack toy, these sets were made with love.

As a kid I would have adored them.

Just look at the maggoty alien babies inside the one below! How great!

The use of NAZCA symbols and ancient wonders on the card back just make them even more interesting for budding Ufologists. I mean how many toys have a NAZCA spider on them?

If it was the Sixties LP would snapped them up but these are from the 80's or 90's and appear to be unbranded.

Anyone know the maker and the date?

The saucers open up like flowers on Mars and away you go.

Closed up they're a neat domed UFO that probably fits in the pocket.

There were three different saucer sets and all made in China. I cannot see a brand name.

Anyone remember these?

KEV'S COMET MINIATURES SHADO LUNAR MODULE

Hi,

Been sorting out a lot of my stuff for display in my, hopefully improved model room. Dug out this, which I've had for years. It is a Comet miniatures mini metal model of the Shado lunar module but with a rare gold-looking finish. Never seen another.

Anyway, it is getting its own little box frame.

COAST GUARD SHADO 2

I just love this photo I saw on flickr of a US Coastguard vehicle in Sturgeon Bay by Garrit Speckhard.

I'm not entirely sure of its a boat or a land vehicle or both but its got Gerry Anderson chops in spades!

It would have looked great on Thunderbirds!

There's a real SHADO vibe to the front especially when you think of Mike Trim's original concept.

What do you think?

UNIDENTIFIED FLYING TOTAL TAXI VEHICLE

Just watching Total Recall - the old one - Kuato, Quade and Venusville! 

Can't help noticing a similarity between the Johnny Cab (bottom pic), the one where Arnie rips out the Johnny driver, and the much older UFO Jeep (2nd from top). 

And that Mars Taxi (2nd from bottom) seems to have the front end of the SPV (top)! Basically Captain Schwarzenscarlet! 

What do you think?

A UFO HAS LANDED BY BILL EV

Sometime in the summer of 2005, I spent a week up in Yorkshire with my friend, Celtica Radio presenter and the stations Founding Director Dave (Cooky) Cook.

During that time, we visited Whitby, and there found a little shop off one of the narrow cobbled streets. The shop was an Aladdin's Cave of Product Enterprise die casts; Eagles, XL5s, Stingrays, SPVs and SHADO equipment which were all in abundance. There was also a beautiful SHADO Interceptor and UFO for sale at £29.99. Stupidly, I thought it was too much to pay, so I passed up on it.

I've been kicking myself ever since.

Cooky and I have often talked about this time, and that I should have just bought the blessed thing. But with the prices such precision models now command, its not something I'd never, ever have suggested a treasured friend to get for me as a gift.

A few days ago, a signed-for package arrived via Royal Mail. So, expecting something else I'd ordered on Ebay turning up (which we'll hear about in a later posting), my first thought was "This is a bigger box than I expected."

I carefully opened it only to find it was this…

Inside, was this beautiful pristine Konami 1/144, or 1/200th scale UFO. Mint, in a mint box, in the sealed plastic bag. And a personal message from Cooky and his wife Angela. I know how much these things fetch on Ebay so I rang them up to say thank you and also to tell them off about spending that amount of money on me.

I honestly can't put into words how perfect the build of this model is. Konami are known for their television accurate models, (I have more than a few of the others in my collection) and this is no exception. Using the 1971 UFO Annual as reference, this is perfect. 

 In fact, because its been made with modern materials and production methods, the UFO is better finished than the actual models used in that TV show itself. For the team of craftsman who created this model, it must have been a labour of love. The lines are clean and super accurate, and even the veins and inner section spins with the clear dome and base staying static. 

 Certainly, if some production company wanted to make a new series of the UFO TV show, and Xerox the look of the UFOs. They could scan these beautiful models for CGI distance shots, and possibly close-ups too.

Of course I'm very grateful to their kindness and for thinking of me like this. So thank you Cooky and Angela you have of course not only added to my valued collection, with a piece that was missing. But its nowhere near as valued as your friendship means to me.
