BUILD AND LEARN: SPACE CREATURES MODEL BOOK

 I've seen this make a model book a few times over the years. I saved a few snaps.

The C3P0 type makes for a memorable cover. I like the robot's Vibrainium shield!

This template inside could be for the golden bot, although he's not shown in the contents! No fair!

It certainly allows you to make some fantastic creatures.

Poor Chewie though, he's in bother on the back cover.

I can't see a publishers' name.

Post Count Off Punch-Out Space Models

I just found this old TV ad for Post Count Off breakfast cereal on You Tube. You could send away for a book of punch-out space models – all it took was two box-tops from Post Count Off.

This looks like a really nice set. I doubt many of them have survived since the 1960s.

Wandering in Eden: My Home-Made Sand Flea

I've always liked the original Sand Flea designed by Eric Eden seen here in the 1966 Thunderbirds Summer Extra bottom left.

I thought I'd have a crack at making one.

More of an impression than a replica.

 

I opted for a darker blue as I had it in.

The main treadwheel at the front is too big really but I had a green rubber band that slipped perfectly over a Vosene bottle cap.

I looked for a plastic doughnut in our Granddaughter's kitchen set but no luck, so I glued together two plastic crate wheels. They're not big or balloony enough really.

The rear armature is an old plastic house-phone cut down to size.

More of a lunar super bike than the Sand Flea, hope you like it.

WAGON CRANES

 

Whenever I see a toy crane like this - a wooden one on Ikeas - it always reminds me of an illustration in one of the neat Project SWORD Make a Model books.

There's some great artwork in them and this is the crane pictured with pals in one of the stories in this one I posted in full years ago [ artist unknown to me. You?]

THE SNOW CRUISER

I always enjoy watching old reels showing fabulous vehicles. There were more amazing vehicles produced than I ever imagined and sometimes bring the visions of the TV21 artists to life.

I watched this clip on You Tube of the 1939 Snow Cruiser and immediately thought of the Snow Train, which featured prominently in the Project SWORD Annual.

JUNIOR'S FLEET

A couple of snaps of Moonbase Junior's new plastic toy vehicles.

Above are two mini Hot Wheels he discovered in two Kinder eggs

Below are a fleet of dump trucks and a JCB. Particularly impressive is the CAT dumper, which would not go amiss in a Gerry Anderson production.

The JCB and trucks reminds me of this old Project SWORD drawing.

I saw this blue toy crane today in a second hand shop and immediately thought of the crane truck in the Project SWORD illustration below.

There's a huge number of vehicles in the Project SWORD universe that never made it to the toy factory.

There's a probably a range of toys where most of these have doppelgangers I bet especially the construction vehicles like these.
