Rob's “Transportation 1957” Art

As February was too cold to work on models in the cellar, I did a few more quick gouache sketches based on a 1950s Japanese Picture Transfer book.

 Subjects should be self-explanatory; I'm calling the series "Transportation '57." 

I like how the original artist turned these iconic vehicles almost into abstract forms, and I tried to capture this simplicity in my 5" x 8" recreations.

IMPKO ON THE BRAIN

I adored looking at the black and white ads for IMPKO decals when I was a kid. They were always at the back of horror comics like Creepy and Eerie. Such cool icons of the monster craze, I never owned any of them but remember clearly all the monster ones.

So when I saw this old vending pack on auction I recognised the IMPKO decal bottom right straight away! 

Its theor famous Health Club Member motif! A bit like Uncle Creepy, its a classic IMPKO design and here is the decal in colour like the vending one.

PLEASE MISTER, HAVE YOU ANY IMPKO HORROR DECALS?

I loved staring at Impko horror water decals as a kid. I remember seeing them in the back of Creepy and Eerie monster magazines. I imagine I tried to get some from Heatleys, my local bike shop, which carried lots of stickers and decals but I doubt Impko was available in the UK. Anyone know?

Damn they are iconic designs though! Do you remember them?
