It all reminds me of my Project SWORD Scout 2 with its swing wings. Did you/ Have you got a Scout 2 or a swing wing toy plane?

There's an old 60's Lockheed research film called Hypsersonics, which apparently featured the plane which inspired SCOUT 2, but the film is lost. There was a hint of it online years ago but no sign of it now.  Have you ever seen it?

THE HORNET AND THE SCOUT

Whenever I see a yellow plastic plane I'm reminded of my Scout 2.

I've stitched together two of the pictures to make it easy to see; what a sleek neat craft!

By comparison here's my beloved Project SWORD Scout 2, which I adored as a kid.

Any similarity ends there though if any at all! 

The Scout 2, being one of the three smallest SWORD toys, could fit on your palm, whereas the 

Hornet Owl is huge! Have a look at the assembly video on the maker's page. How cool is that!

SCOUT'S HONOUR

I saw this bundle recently on a well known auction house website, who specialise in toys, so I was very surprised to see this lot listed as a Project SWORD Re-Entry Task Force No.3, with vehicle, badge and manual. 

The box is indeed for the red Task Force 3 but the yellow vehicle itself is a SWORD Scout 2.

No doubt an honest mistake but one that could have been avoided with some gold ol' scouting..

SUPERSONICO SCOUT 2

Whenever I see this old French space plane I always think of my beloved Scout 2 from the Project SWORD toy range.

Do you have either of these?

I've always loved the Century 21 Toys Project SWORD Scout 2.

It was a form favourite as a kid especially as it had swing wings and spring-loaded missile.

It always went well with that other swing wing the SpaceX Hawk shown here in orange with the larger Tarheel version in green.

I like Scout 2 so much that anything that looks remotely like it gets a second look as I've blogged many times before.

I love this old magazine cover I saw online.

It reminds me a bit of Project SWORD's Scout 2. 

the OK ALBION RAF aircraft TRANSPORTER SCOUT 2 affair

Blimey, I saw this toy online and thought, Wow! that's the Project SWORD Scout 2 [below] on it!

Ha ha, I know it isn't but it looked like it. I tend to get over-excited!

Anyone got one of these RAF Aircraft Transporters? What does the plane look like?

PROJECT SWORD SCOUT BOX VARIATIONS: RESEARCH BY ARTO

SCOUT 2 BOXES

There are some box front differences on these Scout 2 boxes. 

The top one above (which I believe is the later issue) has also a somewhat thinner cardboard, and oddly enough a sharper printing quality to the box illustration - qualities which first made me ponder whether it was a very good repro box. 

You can notice the difference in the picture quality for instance on the "A706" code on the side of Scout 2; on the (earlier in my opinion) box version with the more blurred image is looks almost like "A705".

But then there's that "Made in Hong Kong" which has travelled from the long side .......

.....onto one end of the box, below left. Additionally, on the left box below, the Century 21 logo does not touch the horizontal blue bar with SCOUT 2 on it, as it does on the other (presumed earlier) version.

Actually the one missing "Made in Hong Kong" on the side, above left, has a longer text "Made in Hong Kong for Century 21 Toys Limited" on one end of the box. I wonder if this pertains to all three Scouts?

END FLAPS OF ALL SCOUT BOXES

Here are pictures of all box variants across all three Scouts that I found on the Blog or in my own collection. A short explanation:

V1 = 1-line text CENTURY 21 TOYS LIMITED on end flap

V2 = 2-line text MADE IN HONG KONG for CENTURY 21 TOYS LIMITED

V3 = 2-line text MADE IN HONG KONG FOR CENTURY 21 TOYS LIMITED (all in bold, different colour scheme)

We are missing (at least) Scout 3 box version 1.

NASA X24 SCOUT 2 DOPPELGANGER

Was having a scout round the NASA JPL archives the other day and there's a historical section on lifting body tech. Found this unusual shot of the X24, as opposed to the blunt nosed X24. How Scouty is this?

NASA HYPER III: SIMILAR TO SCOUT 2
