Arco's Action Figure Vehicle

I've always liked the idea of general toys being used with action figures. Sometimes companies did just that. Arco did it with this generic action figure car. 

I've never seen it but I imagine it went down well with kids who couldn't get hold of branded character vehicles. Star Wars is even namechecked on the box as well as GI Joe and others! Not sure who the figure is sat inside. Arco's own?

Mystery Police Car

I saw one of these recently at a sale, albeit red. I'm guessing it must be battery-operated and the police lights flash.

It's from the 1980's and from toy firm ARCO.

Is it from a set? Anyone recognise it?

ARCO'S ACTION FIGURE VEHICLE

 

I like this toy I saw online but I've never seen one in the flesh. ARCO's Action Figure Vehicle, the idea being that it could be used with 3.75 inch action figures from any line. Not sure who's sat at the wheel but I imagine its an 80's character.

It looks a bit like a Fisher Price Adventure People design to me.

With behemoths like Kenners Star wars range, I can see the business sense of making general vehicles like this. Not knockoffs, something else!

This utilitarian idea reminds me of Cherilea's various armoured vehicles and tanks when I was a kid in the 60's, all able to be deployed with Action Man, Tommy Gunn and any other 12 inch figure. Maybe Barbie and Sindy ended up in them too in some households?

Do you like generic vehicles that can be used with figures like this readers? Did you have any?

ARCO DETOO

 Looking into Arco's Play Kid toys is fun and I've come to realise Star Wars figure collectors like them a lot, especially knockoff fans.

Arco's SpaceWar range of small figures are as prized as a Wampa's doo doo and collecting them all would be a real challenge I bet.

Here's Arco's little Darth Vader effort. He even gets a TV camera for filming his own rise to power and an mechanical arm for keeping his millions of fans at arm's length.

I love the golden robot C3P0 on the header. Did they do a R2D2?

Do you collect Spacewar figures readers?

Alongside Arco's more famous Spacewar are their more generic Play Kid sets. I've looked at the space ones before on MC but here's a different line, construction workers in the hilariously titled box, On The Job!

Seen on Ebay, everything looks as it should be and I for one would have loved this in the Sixties, when I suppose Arco's equivalent back then would have been someone like Blue Box and their beautiful three-layered window boxed sets of tippers, trucks and workmen.

WE BIULT THIS CITY WITH ARCO TOYS

 Last month I blogged this little figure by Arco, wondering who the City fella was.

I didn't bring this figure home so looking at the photo I started to look around for candidates.

Arco browsing took me to their Play Kid range we've seen before on MC. There were space themed sets under that banner too.

I think our mystery city worker is from Arco's Play Kid. Do you agree?

Here's a loose cowboy who has a hankering for city life.

I bet there's a Play Kid City set but I haven't found it.

ARCO, SNAKES AND THE OTHER WORLD

 As a kid I would have loved Arco toys. They released some great quirky stuff in the 80's.

This Skull full of Snakes is just brilliant! A Halloween special if ever there was one. Snakes on a brain!

and I love these fighting Glowgons. I've only ever seen the little purple fellas before, I found one on a car boot sale. The red and green creatures are superb, as is that great looking dragon.  I imagine that this was Arco's shot at the whole Sword and Sorcery/ fantasy sub-genre. Not bad methinks.

Arco Push 'n' Light Space Rocket: A Star Wars Turkey?

Sometimes you just know instinctively that a space toy is ugly.

We've seen some real dirt bags over the years on Moonbase.

But this toy is in that grey area between worlds, between not bad at all and a downright mess, in my opinion of course!

It's Arco's 1979 Push 'n' Light Spaceship.

I quite like the look of it for some reason but then again think its not something I would want.

One intriguing element is the non-battery light and sound. How does that work? A dynamo of some sort?

With it coming out in the early years of Star Wars fever there must be something of Lucas's universe in here. I'm just not sure what. Is it a knockoff?

Its ground-hugging design is quite novel though.
