I was stunned when I saw this beautiful auctioned box art.
It's 16 inches long too!
Even more amazing is that its from 1946! A year after World War Two ended!
It was painted by legendary cartoonist Rick Yager, whose signature is on the box.
Released by the ROC-KIT Company of Chicago, Illinois.
Besides the box art Rick Yager designed the toy too! It's a balsa wood spacecraft kit and once built would be 18.5 inches long.
This Yager toy and box art seems unique to me. I couldn't find any other he'd designed and had his signature on the box. It seems to combine his love of wood carving with the art that made him famous.

Rick Yager made his name in America drawing Buck Rogers strips.
Alongside Dick Calkins the strips became hugely popular. Yager carried Buck's torch until 1958.
This rare Lunar Phantom toy was basically a wooden kit, with mostly wooden parts together with a pair of transparent plastic blisters. It came with beautiful plans.
I couldn't find any reference to the Lunar Phantom in the Buck Rogers strips. Is that correct?
All in all I personally think the box is one of most gorgeous illustrations on a 'toy' box I've ever seen.
