 Sorting out some of my toy related badges I came across this. It’s only small, about 1”x1”, but I’ve no idea what it is.

Fantastic and Terrific!

 Finding a Fantastic comic badge yesterday, I had a gander at which issue it came with as a free gift back in the day.

This is the badge I found.

And turns out this is the issue of Fantastic and Terrific it came with, #54. This one's on eBay. 

I did get Fantastic comic for a while as a kid but I don't recall the badge. Do you?

Ponty Packed

 Missus Moonbase and me have been out to Pontefract dropping off charity bags and mooching round them at the same time.

Ponty's turning out to be a good place for vintage toys and stuff with its well-stocked  charity shops, the Etsy shop and the Magistrates Court packed with goodies.

My only purchase was a bargain I thought, £3 for all these old badges. There's some good ones you'll no doubt remember: Sky Ray Moon Fleet, One with TV Times Tivvy, Man from Uncle Bubble Gum, Batman, P'Nut Spaceman (What's that?) and more. I was chuffed with Aztecs, which I adored as a kid; Bruce Lee and Fantastic, a comic I got as a nipper. 

Did you have any of these?

One of many Star Wars figures cabinets

Raleigh Chopper, £1200! Ouch! I had one as a kid. Did you?

Clarks Commandos Badges

 This mystery Badge - bottom centre - was ID'd by Bill earlier in May as a later Clarks Commandos.

We've stopped off for a pizza lunch in the lovely Yorkshire market town of Malton.

Mooching the second-hand shops I saw a box of old badges at a pound each. Nothing I needed. There were Clarks Commandos, modern Thunderbirds and an unusual one with a sort of ECG blip on it. Bottom centre in the pic.

Anyone recognise it?

I keep seeing these I Spy for Double Agents pun badge. I've no idea what it is.

I like the motif though.

I know these probably aren't exactly what you had in mind but it's what I have.

 That said, the Roy Rogers badges do tie-in with recent blog posts. Funny, but every time a 'SWORD' badge or other sci-fi type of badge becomes available on fleaBay, I put it on watch and promptly forget about it! Oomph!

Paul's UNCLE Badge - Found!

Hi Woodsy,

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (1964-68) was a very popular TV series, and there was a lot of merchandise tied-in with the show at the time. While I missed out on most of this, I did have a pair of Man From U.N.C.L.E. pyjamas.

These came with a plastic glow-in-the-dark badge, which clipped to the pocket. I had Number 11 (Napoleon Solo); there was also a Number 2 (Illya Kuryakin).

The badges were the same as those worn by the agents inside U.N.C.L.E. HQ. They were 80 mm wide, and 86 mm tall.

The glow-in-the-dark plastic was greenish, with the U.N.C.L.E. title and the number picked out in black. The lettering and number being slightly raised.

The back clip on mine, which slipped over the breast pocket, broke off decades ago. There is writing on the back, in two groups.

Two diamond shapes on the left have MODEL and LITTLE MODEL inside them. On the right is C 1965 MGM. INC. SAVADA BROS. INC. N.Y.C.

Savada Bros. Inc. was the name of the manufacturer of the pyjamas (my pair was probably made in NZ under licence by another company entirely). Model and Little Model were names used by the company.

Here is the earlier Moonbase Central post showing the Illya Kuryakin badge, and the fabric used to make the pyjamas – I had the blue version. Mine wore out many years ago, as I just about lived in them.

I was really delighted to find my old badge recently. It is well over 50 years old, but still glows in the dark!

MOON FLEET CAPTAIN BADGE

This badge caught my eye on Ebay so I saved a pic.

I used to eat Sky Rays and remember their Moon Fleet marketing.

Here's the Captain badge. I wonder of there were more?

TERRANOVA47'S OLD TINS OF BADGES AND PINS

True to Murphey's Law, in searching for something specific, something else turns up instead.

I was looking for the remaining tobacciana items and found two tobacco tins, which on opening contained the remains of my childhood badge collection with updates to the early 70's.

So for readers enjoyment and possible recognition:

• An Air Lingus pin given to me when I was in a publicity shot for the airline
• BEA pin from the airlines' stand at an Earl's Court Schoolboy Exposition.
• TARDIS COMMANDER from an BBC Dr Who exhibit at London's Science Museum
• Badges from staying at Butlin's Holiday Camps.
• 007 from the first Bond movie, sadly suffering from being next to a rusty badge.
• Eric Winston was the orchestra conductor at a Butlin's Camp.
• Civil Liberty from a High School club
• The Blue badge was for my Primary School Marvell House. Which is strange as I was in Coleridge House which was red? The Houses were named after poets
• The Empire State Building is the kind of metal badge given out in the USA to show admission has been paid. This is from a trip to the USA in 1959.
• Tonibell Ice Cream was from one of their vans.
• League of Oveltinies is from the days when Oveltine sponsored Dan Dare stories on Radio Luxemburg.
• Castrol and Birds Eye from an Earl's Court Schoolboy Exposition.
• Robertson's Golliwog from senidng in labels on jars of jam
• Uncle Holly was from waiting inline for hours to see Santa at Selfridges Department Store in London. Uncle Holly was Santa's cheap understudy.
• Dr McCoy must have been in a Kellogg's cereal box
• Methodist movement's John Wesley was from visiting his home
• Matchbox Collector was in with a toy army truck
• Desert Commandos was from a brand of dates that had great French Foreign Legion promotions
• Esso Safety and Wall's Curb Drillers are from Police road safety demonstrations in school playgrounds.
• Potato Puffs, Noddy and Murray Mints are mail in promotions
• A Knight of the Banner is from Banner schoolboy shirts,
• The QEII medal was given to me by my Grandmother for the Coronation in 1953
• The Muffin Club was from the BBC children's programme, Muffin the Mule
• Dan Dare was with a Dan Dare licensed belt.

In with the badges were these four US packs of safety razors. Part of another of my eccentric collections.

No doubt the DUREX one will send shivers down any UK readers spine!
