Mystery Stingray Model Seen on You Tube: Lyons Maid?

 

This clip appeared years ago on You Tube and I've just found it again. What do you think it is readers? Is it a Lyons Maid Stingray, like the one posted today from Will O?

Hi Paul. Here’s one of my favourite Anderson toys. The Lakeside Terror Fish. Why they decided to make it in tin rather than plastic I don’t know, but I’m glad they did. I think it’s a little work of art!

A FISH PLEASE, IN A BOX

 Silver surfing the other day I found this Terror Fish kit!

Part of MIDORI's SF offer back in the Sixties, this and Stingray itself were in fine company.

The MIDORI box art is just fabulous, the mechanical fish releasing a missile with Stingray in hot pursuit.

The kit itself appeared to be just a few green parts. 

On the box side was one of my favourite SF vehicles, the Vanguard.

I also found this picture of a bagged Terror Fish from Japan. This may well be modern. Does anyone know?

KEV's AGENT X20'S SUB SCRATCHBIULD

Just completed this build of Agent X20's submarine from Stingray. The model is made from a Revell kit of the Bell X5 aircraft, as was the original.

IMAI'S STINGRAY UNDERSEA MODULE KIT

 Like Lewis I've got lost in Skullbrain.

One of Moog's amazing Japanese entries is this superb plastic model of a Stingray and a Terrorfish, as well as various other craft.

I adore the bright colours and the modular pods on stilts are fantastic.

Do you like it?

Here's The Moog's catalogue page for all the Imai stacks like the Stingray one. What a great idea and the final shot in the bottom right corner is staggering. Like an underwater city!

STAND BY THE TAP FOR ACTION!

This plastic water pistol caught my eye on an auction so I kept the pics.

Greek in origin its a deadringer for Stingray.

There's not much detail on it but the basic shape is there. I imagine its unlicensed.

Is this a water pistol you would have liked readers? Did you have a water pistol?

THE STINGRAY B1 BATHYSPHERE

I don't recall this B1 sub from the Stingray episode The Golden Sea in 1965, but then again I was only 4.

I do like the look of it. Do you? I understand that there are loads of different subs in Stingray.

Kit detective Marc Frattassio described the B1 as an underwater gold mining bathyscaph 12 inch model and was built from balsa wood with kit parts and plastic or metal tubing details [TV21 website]

At first glance it reminded me of the unlicenced SHADO Sky 8 sub toy from Japan, but on inspection not really.

B1 does remind me of DIVER 1 from the Project SWORD Annual a few years later.

I wonder if the B1 prop survived the ravages of time?

I Had a nice little pick up the other day. A complete run of TV21 from 1 to 242. Going through them I’m finding some tie-ins with some of my stuff. 

This one is the Lilo Stingray swim ring from Golden Wonder crisps. 

Were they available in the shops too or just the promotion?

I had to look twice at this old carded set I saw online.

I thought the red and blue craft was Stingray!

That blue rear really looks like a ratemaster.

Has anyone got this toy?

To cap it all off...

Hello again! 

I was just thinking about my typographic jokes and references while I was doing the washing up. 

I noticed these two bottle caps, the 60s one on the left was brought out from the UK when my mother emigrated. 

The other is an early 3D printing experiment using flexible resins and is my tribute to her and a lifetime's memories of the way she'd store brewed coffee in a glass milk bottle (long after they'd been replaced with cardboard cartons) sealed with that cap.

The typographic reference?

The word HYGIENIC is in Stingray font!

I saw this plastic toy ray gun on auction.

It would make a nice Xmas stocking filler!

I saved the pictures.

There's just something familiar about it.

It sort of reminds me a little of the Lone Star Stingray Ray Gun.

WORLD NAVY SUB 57 AND THE TOY RACING CAR

Yorkie's ace observations  in the comments about this mystery toy racing car and its possible use as a Century 21 prop were so good that I had to post them.

Yorkie said that in the Stingray episode 'Man from the Navy', the World Navy Sub 27 is a converted racing car toy or model. A conning tower has been added and the rear of the car becomes the front of the sub. It could be the toy pictured.

Since posting the 'mystery' racing car post I've realised where I first saved the picture from. It belonged to modeller Mike Delamar and I asked to use it nearly 10 years ago on an online thread. You can see the thread on the Eagletransporter Forum [you may have to register after a while]. Mike's a master scratch builder and the old thread detailed his search for original parts to create the World Navy Sub 27 from the toy racing car. Sadly the thread peters out and the finished model is not shown.

The toy dash, the Playmobile, was released by Deluxe Reading in 1960.

Was it released by Topper in the UK? Would it have been easy for the model makers on Stingray to get hold of in the UK?
