It's Wild at Wildwoods

Stateside reader Brian F from Monster Base sent me this snap of Wildwoods funfair on the New Jersey shore.

It's looks like good clean summer fun!

Do you still visit funfairs and fairgrounds? Did you used to buy toys at them?

The Dodgems Blues

I threw caution to the wind today and joined my Grandson Moonbase Junior in what he called a bumper car and what I knew as a Dodgem.

This inter-generational wonder occurred at the Valentine's Day Fair in Leeds City Centre. 

All went well with Junior driving until our first bump. For some reason we stopped dead and were sitting ducks! Eager rammers flew past us at speed and we just couldn't understand why our car was stationary until the ride guy shouted 'press the pedal!'

'Pedal? What pedal?'

Junior then realized that he'd got a pedal on his side and the bump had knocked his foot off! 

Pressing said pedal to the metal, we were just about to re-enter into the fray, when some kid with a mullet totally rammed us from the rear.

It was one helluva collision and our car leapt violently forward, as did I, letting out a distinct yelp. Junior seemed unperturbed but I was definitely rattled.

I said 'Junior, pedal!' and I grabbed the wheel! Red mist had descended and I'd decided that Mullet boy was toast! 

Fortunately he was a better driver than me and my anger dissipated as I drove in ever-decreasing circles! 

I'm unsure of the moral of this story but it's the first time I've come home with Dodgem whiplash! 😵‍💫

JERSEY SHORE HALF MOON FEVER

With Summer coming to an end, I have made an effort to visit nearby beach resort towns like Wildwood and Ocean City, New Jersey.

Here's some more pics of the boardwalk attractions and some new toy recruits for Monster Base!

W I L D W O O D

HI Woodsy.I have taken my annual visit to Wildwood NJ.The boardwalk ,which is usually not crowded in early August,was even less crowded,probably because of Covid concerns.

The amusement piers are open,with cleaning crews keeping things clean and safe.While I did walk out on the piers,I wasn't so much interested in the rides.My goal was some early Christmas shopping.

The little shops along the boardwalk are famous for unusual items and most are having end of season sales.I also wanted to indulge in a slice of boardwalk pizza.

My choice was an unusual one.Pizza with grilled chicken, barbecue sauce and white cheddar cheese.Surprisingly good!

ZOLTAR AT OCEAN CITY

Hi Woodsy.

On a lovely Autumn day I took a ride to Ocean City for some fresh air.

The beach going crowds are all gone, but business is still booming on the boardwalk.

One of my favorites is Castaway Cove Arcade. 

Back in the corner is a cool shooting gallery featuring skeletons and various monsters.

They also have a Zoltar machine,which you may recognize from Tom Hanks comedy "Big".
