Woodsy,
I know these quick-fit kits from an as yet unknown manufacturer from Hong Kong have been featured on Moonbase before, but I recently got around to assembling the two that I have which are the Vanguard and Echo Car (I'm missing the Moguras tank). Mine gave me a few fits with parts that didn't want to snap together as they should, requiring a bit of filing. Other parts were very loose and sit on the vehicle at odd angles. The hull halves no longer mate perfectly, and there are small gaps. However, on a positive note, these are sized pretty darned good for Tri-ang, LP, or 25mm figures. I'll send photos of the Echo Car in a separate e-mail later today or tomorrow.
From Vegas Base.

An interesting model - the tracks are clear red plastic, which is an odd choice.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very beautiful "toy model"! The Echo Car and the Moguras Tank were also designs used in similar plastic model kits by Midori, although I am not sure they used the same molds. Still, this is classic "first wave" Japan SF Design - thanks for sharing! Never seen the Vanguard "built up." SFZ
ReplyDeleteBeautiful description and pics Ed, as always! Gorgeous and I have a real soft spot for this small range. The Ech Car was one of the first true vintage space toys I ever bought as a new collector. I adored the box art, the little painted cameos of the three vehicles. Totally wonderful and a window into the simple beauty of plastic Hong Kong space toys.
