Adam Adamant Lives did not screen in NZ, and I had never seen it. However it was often referred to, and seemed to be well regarded. It was also mentioned a few times on Moonbase Central, so when I saw a boxed set of the surviving episodes (many were thrown out by the BBC, just as they did with Doctor Who), I bought it. A great, fun series. Very happy with it.
The Champions was a series that did not screen in NZ at the time it was made. It finally arrived, around the late 1970s ? Say a decade or so after it was made. It was clearly an older show by the time it arrived here. Another good series. I managed to pick up a few DVDs with the first ten episodes on them, but then found this boxed set with all 30 episodes, so I snapped it up.
Jason King was a fun series that did screen in NZ. So I knew what I was getting when I got this boxed set. A spin-off from Department S, which I do not have.
Honey West was another series that did not make it to NZ. But after seeing it mentioned a few times on Moonbase Central, I had a look on You Tube, and found some of the episodes. I was so impressed I ordered the DVD set. No one local had the set, so I had to get it from overseas.I have already written this set up for Moonbase, it was 2020.
Have you got any of these?
Paul Adams from NZ
Fascinating DVDs Paul. I never saw Adam Adamant but know the Champions and Jason King well from my childhood. Department S is on the TV here in Blighty every day at the mo. It really was the golden age of TV dramas.
ReplyDeleteI recently added Department S to the collection, so that is another gap filled.
ReplyDeleteNice. Does it filed away under D or S? Ha ha
DeleteGreat finds all! The Champions made it to US TV syndication, and I loved that one. And Honey West was hilarious - loved that show! Much more fun than the Man from UNCLE. SFZ
ReplyDeleteNZ got The Man From UNCLE, but not The Girl From UNCLE. Alas, no Honey West either, until I saw a few episodes on You Tube, and then ordered the DVD set. A great series.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen The Girl from Uncle either. There's some great toys associated with it.
ReplyDeleteI had the Champions DVD and CD from Network. I have Department S, but I haven't got around to rewatching it yet. Like Virgin of the Secret Service and the full Avengers series, I'm rationing them out to relive my childhood TV experiences!
