Well I would love to nominate a Dan Dare related item but I can think of none that fills the bill.
Certainly the Dan Dare kite would not be it. It came in a yellow cardboard tube and consisted of a heavy yellow canvas like diamond shape kite with a sectional metal frame that was not unlike bicycle wheel spokes. The frame had to be fed into loops around the edge of the canvas. It had a tail of knotted bows and did have a nice image of Dan Dare in black printed on it.
We tried flying it on a cliff top in pretty good wind and the thing went no higher than you could hold it before plummeting to the ground. Bad Form and Bad Function.
ha ha, I like That Terran, one you deffo wouldn't nominate! Is it not risky flying a kite near a cliff top? There were no cliffs in my childhood - apart from my Dad, whose name it was!
I do not remember which south coast resort it was but we were in a grass enclosure with fences. The kite was so useless that my Dad bought me the Crescent rocket launcher which did fly! You posted that toy on MC a few weeks ago pictured in the snow.
Sounds like a good trade that Terran, useless kite for an ace rocket launcher! Oddly enough there is a huge kite festival in Wakefield near us every year. Its quite spectacular and looks really quite beautiful on the hillside. Its in Heath, the Village of Mansions.
the most beautifully futuristic toy ever made? NO.
ReplyDeleteIt looks good until it moves then it looks daft. For true beauty you need FORM & FUNCTION.
ha ha! So which toy would you put forward Terra?
