I picked up this cute rattling bear over the summer.
At the rear it's marked Kleeware, a brand we've seen before on MC.
I thought that's all there was to know about my bear and he would remain a mystery.
But Arto found out more!
It's one of ... Yes, the three bears!
As in, Goldilocks!
Kleeware released this beautiful boxed set.
Complete with the story!
And here they are, the three near and Goldilocks.
Have you any toy bears?
And thanks Arto!
This sort of little kids toy stuff is not normally for me, but this discovery is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteFrom a random toy bear to a legendary childhood story set is a fantastic achievement.
Well done guys !
Cheers Mish, it's nice when all the crumbs lead somewhere, in this case the house of the three bears! Ha ha.
DeleteThat Goldilocks and the Three Bears set is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. What a find - even a single piece.
ReplyDeleteO and M Kleeman Limited was a British plastics company, whose toy and kit lines (sold under the Kleeware name) were often of American origin, manufactured under licence in Britain. The firm was established in 1938, and abandoned toy making in 1959 to concentrate on other aspects of the plastics business.
That boxed set from Arto actually has the name Jericho Corp. N.Y. on the spine of the ‘book’. So they were presumably the source of the Papa Bear made by Kleeware.
Great info Paul, thanks a lot. So many toy companies were in NY.
DeleteThanks for the credit Woodsy, although I only sourced this lovely item which went to another collection. One more toy bear mystery solved!
ReplyDeleteI bet one day Arto you'll find that very boxed Goldilocks Set at one of Finland's amazing vintage fairs!
DeleteThat is truly an adorable toy, one of those beautiful things from a lost childhood that now seems almost too good to be true. SFZ
ReplyDeleteIt is charming SF and in a house clearance box. Always slightly sad those boxes but windows into a simpler past they are too.
