Images of three of the several pocket money Larami Space: 1999 toys, that appeared around 1975 and 76, which had little , if anything to do with Space:1999.
Some of the other Larami cheap rehashed and repackaged generic toys included a plastic Swiss army knife, a toy watch and a periscope!
Who had any of these little gems at the time?
Love Laramie Scoop. These are great. Never seen them in the flesh. Must be great to collect them. I love how Larami could turn basic toys into TV blister cards and repeated it with so many shows. That Space 1999 Aspirin box is just ace!
ReplyDeleteI never saw them at the time, Woodsy. I wonder if they were only released in the U.S.?
DeleteI like the Moonbase Medic yellow plastic hammer, for tapping kneecaps to check reactions!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they sold. I'd gladly have any of these nowadays, but back in the day, I don't think so. Even the backing cards are a bit underwhelming!:D
DeleteI like the target set as the pistol has a Judge Dredd lawgiver Mk1 vibe.
ReplyDeleteI'll stick to the stun gun, Dave, although I imagine the target game would be fun, assuming you don't take someone's eye out!:D
DeleteSorry guys but I never liked rip offs like these as a kid.
ReplyDeleteI felt cheated, as the toys bore no relation to the props used in the show.
The gun is a particularly gratuitous example, in this case, as it is just a cheap plastic bead firing gun that looks nothing like the uniquely shaped Moonbase Alpha sidearms.
Not for me.
On the whole I think we're all of the same mind, Mish.
DeleteThese are hilarious! As Space:1999 received a sporadic and half-hearted release in the US, this is the kind of product we ended up with. SFZ
ReplyDeleteI think you got some good stuff in the mix , Zigg. The large Mattel Eagle 1 toy was fabulous.
DeleteThey were still using wind up pocket watches in 1999?
ReplyDeleteClockwork wasn't affected by battery problems and computer shut downs! ;D
