A recent visit to the lovely North Yorkshire town of Bedale found me mooching in a toy shop.
This display of military action dolls and vehicles drew me in.
This Lookout Out Tower brought back happy memories of my Action Man assault tower.
I do like the look of these modern figures like these World Peacekeepers.
And this Combat Tank for the smaller soldiers appears to be the business!
And speak of the devil, good old Action Man made an appearance too! A display of modern re-issues. I was SO tempted at £20 each but my gripping hands resisted!
Would you have readers?
Don't know nothin' about tanks, but that Combat Tank sure looks like a fictional design to me - how sleek and streamlined it is! SFZ
ReplyDeleteI know SF, it looked amazing and I think it was remote control too!
DeleteIt could be an Abrams tank, but it does look a bit low slung!
DeleteThose Action men look nice. I'd have the pilot version to match my original one. I see he's sporting what looks like a helicopter helmet.
As an aside, I'm having no end of trouble getting a reasonably priced Dragon style German soldier for my puppet film. It seems not so long ago, that the shops were full of them, but now they've all gone to live on eBay at stupid prices!
Oddly enough the reissue Action Man boxed figs are cheaper on eBay than in that shop I visited Looey. I hope you find your Dragon soldier!
DeleteI would have latched on to one or two of the Action Man figures Woodsy! As a fatter-of-mact, I came real close to buying a vintage boxed 12" figure about a month ago but bought trains instead! hahaha
ReplyDeleteHa ha, so would you say you're a train buff Ed!
DeleteOh yes!!!
DeleteNice to see World Peacekeepers in the wild again. They were a staple of Big Lots and ToysRUs here in the states. Decent quality for the price point. On the larger figures the guns sometimes had scale or quality issues. Their smaller line is great for RAH scale figures although the vehicle line is sometimes under their Real Heroes name. They always seem to have a few slight scale changes in their models, the Blackhawk has a too short boom, the Abrams is too short, etc. I suspect the changes were due to cost concerns and shelf space. They had a large boat that was a copy of most of the Cobra Moray boat design but somehow had more guns/missiles on it than Hasbro did lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lance. Great insights. How long were you in the toy industry?
DeleteWell directly involved was about 14 years with Dayton Hudson/Target but I stayed connected with a few individuals still. I did a lot of competitive shopping comparing stock and prices and sadly a lot of that stuck in my brain, mostly items not prices.
DeleteA great toy foundation that Lance. Have you ever thought of creating your own toy line?
