If I was starting a new collection I could easily see myself getting hold of big plastic cars, especially TV related ones and probably old Spanish makes, which are just fabulous.
Anyways, as I've done before on MC, here's a random gallery of some big old TV related toy cars I've seen this year on auction on the web. Some are plastic, some tin.
Dr. Mopp Car by Marx
Mr. Magoo Car by Hubley
Babar by Educalux
Popeye's Paddlewagon by Nacoral of Spain. Cor!
Dick Dastardley Le Voiture de Satanas by Joustra of Spain. Drat, double drat!
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang by Molto of Spain. Truly scrumptious!
Green Hornet Secret Service Action car by Alps Aoshin
Starsky and Hutch Car by Palitoy
Starsky and Hutch Car by Mego [for their action figures]
Billy and Betsy Jolly old-fashion Car [may not be TV related this]
Do you have a favourite?
Do you have any big toy cars?
Oddly, I have a big tinplate vintage car that is the same as the toy they actually used as Doctor Mopp's car in the show. It's much more accurate than that toy one!
ReplyDeleteWow! Its the same but not a prop Kev? Pictures please!
DeleteWow, how lovely, I'll take 'em all! SFZ
ReplyDeleteha ha, me too SF!
DeleteWhat an amazing collection of toys. For me, it would have to be the Hubley Mr. Magoo car. Followed by the large Popeye Paddle-Wagon, and Babar the Elephant - how often do you see an elephant driving a vintage car ?
ReplyDeleteha ha, good choice Paul!
DeleteWhile I normally don't collect large sized cars I do have a Japanese Batt Op police cruiser and a couple of large Flintstones car's from McFarlane and Hanna-Barbera Productions.
ReplyDeleteYou know what I'm going to say Ed! ha ha
DeleteOh, I forgot. I do have a large Marx tin-litho jalopy ca1927. There's probably more I can't remember off the top of my head.
ReplyDeletePictures of the lot Ed ... when youre not busy!
Deleteand thank you Ed!
DeleteGiven a choice, I'd grab the keys for the Mego Starsky & Hutch car. Some old favourites in that gallery of TV greats, Woodsy.
ReplyDeleteIt is a corker Tone I agree and not one I'd seen before seeing it on an old auction site today before posting its pic. Mego were just amazing!
DeleteI failed miserably in my attempt to buy a Molto Chitty (I ended up with an expensive Corgi junker!)
ReplyDeleteBut, that Dick Dastardly ride...
Where has that been all my life?
I know Looey, the Joustra Dastardly car is really a real work of art! I'd have it on the middle of the dining room table!
DeleteThe Popeye paddlewagon is interesting. I was under the impression that it was a Corgi design. Was it used in any cartoon or is one of them a copy?
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it was in a carton Anon but my guess is that its a large scale plastic copy of the Corgi original.
DeleteIt's Dick Dastardly's Mean Machine for me, for sure.
ReplyDeleteWhat a hot rod !
Yay and double yay!
