Some photos featuring the two pulp Sci-fi flicks I mentioned in my comment on Woodsy's 'The Shape of Things to Come' movie post.
Starcrash which starred Caroline Munro, and lower down the cast list, David Hasselhoff.
Christopher Plummer appeared as the Emperor of the Universe.
The Sound of Music was never like this!Spacehunter:: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone (no, not the one in Beneath the Planet of the Apes!)
I think I saw Spacehunter in 3d. It was literally unwatchable because I couldn't get the cardboard 3d glasses to fit with my actual glasses! Had it been 2d, it might not have been so bad.
ReplyDeleteYou're right Kevin, it was originally released in 3D. I don't recall seeing it in 3D myself, but whether it improved in 2D it's hard to say. I don't think it was too bad. Visually and storywise typical sci-fi of the era, and nothing like as cheesy as Starcrash! ;D
ReplyDeleteI remember the Ice Pirates…Starcrash was something of a hand-off from Marjoe Gortner to the Hoff I suppose
ReplyDeleteI seem to think I first saw Ice Pirates when it was shown on the Sci-fi channel, another cheap but fun one.
DeleteI saw Marjoe Gortner not long ago in Earthquake. He was an ordained minister I believe.
Haven't seen either of these Scoop. Missed them somehow.
ReplyDeleteA lot of them turned up later on VHS, when home video became the thing, usually with covers that had little to do with the story. I rented quite a few stinkers during that time, Woodsy.
DeleteAs a dedicated weirdo, you probably already know that I like all the Star Wars ripoffs better than the original. Star Crash and The Humanoid are favorites, and Battle Beyond the Stars and The Ice Pirates are fine too. Message From Space not bad either. Also, with The Exorcist, I like the weird ripoffs better, with Demon Witch Child being the hands-down masterpiece of awful "possessed child" movies. SFZ
ReplyDeleteLike you I don't have much interest in Star Wars Zigg, although I'm happy it was the catalyst for all those wonderful rip off movies.
DeleteBattle Beyond the Stars was pretty good, too- the Magnificent Seven in space!
