Saw a modern flick called Primal Force recently about angry baboons. It was dire but I appreciated the aping around.
Here's the German DVD cover with Ron primal Perlman
It reminded me of a much older horror flick called Primal Rage, again about very cross gorillas.
There was a range of carded action figures and boxed vehicles too I think but theses came out in the mid-90's so may not have anything to do with the film. The movie was a horror film and not really for kids!
I may have sold a few of these figures and weapons over the years. Hard to say. The plastic parts of many action figure ranges all looked the same in the 90's!

I suppose Jurassic Park and Congo boosted this whole sub-genre of toys as crazed apes and armoured dinosaurs suddenly appeared in many ranges like Primal Rage, Dino Riders and Cadillacs and Dinosaurs.

Congo didn't do too well. I have a friend who worked on the special effects though, so I watched it anyway.
ReplyDeleteCongo took a while to get going Baron I agree. I liked the nasty white apes they find in the ruins. I had an Amy plush toy still boxed on my old toy stall for ages. It didn't sell. Maybe they should have devoted the flick to those nasty apes entirely.
DeleteI bought the original Xenozoic Tales and Cadillacs and Dinosaurs comics, which spawned the series. Nice artwork, but ridiculous storyline. A similar thing was attempted with the 2000ad story 'Flesh' which involved big companies travelling back in time to harvest dinosaur meat with the inevitable consequences. Bill
ReplyDeleteI like that idea in Flesh! Clever! Never seen any of those comics Bill and I'm unsure if I'd recognise Cadi and Dinosuars figures. I suppose they're similar to MASK.
