I caught 10 minutes of the old flick At The Earth's Core this morning in between gardening duties.
It starred Peter Cushing and Doug McClure.
There were some rubber dinosaur birds and a huge boar man. I suppose I have to admit even they were Kaiju.
Doug McClure hit everyone on screen. He pounded them with a shower of punches and then looked surprised.
Does he hit everyone in all his films? Was he a good leading man do you think?
Have his run of flicks like this and The Land That Time Forgot and co ever spawned any toys or models or collectables?
Didn't Doug McClure feature in a follow up to 20,000 Leagues under the sea (city under the sea?). His films seems the sort of thing you watch on (non-prime time) TV, rather than going to see at the cinema.
ReplyDeleteThat rings a bell Andy. Maybe even the Warlords of Atlantis? He was an unlikely star of those fantasy movies.
Deletedirectors said he was fantastic and very professional about fight scenes - years of western tv
ReplyDeleteOf course. Westerns! I'd forgotten he was in those Konsum. He looks Cowboyish with his healthy head of hair. Having read up on him this morning I was saddened to see he passed away so young at just 59. His career was amazing and as you say Westerns were his stock in trade really. So many in the 50's and 60's. The B-movie fantasy films were very much a late addition and I suppose by that point his former fame was on the wane. There appear to have been 5 fantasy films Doug starred in. Humanoids from the Deep was the last one with monsters designed by Rob Bottin according to Wiki. I may have it in VHS. I know I have Warlords from Atlantis.
