John Freeman over at the excellent Down The Tubes comics blog very kindly alerted me to the upcoming kickstarter campaign for a Project SWORD graphic novel by Anderson Entertainment and Time Bomb comics.
Here's John's own post on Down the Tubes, which gives the kickstarter link and explains the enterprise in detail: https://share.google/QNm2nbrRsJhldG3wC
I have signed up as a follower and the prospect of a comic hardback version is tantalizing to say the least, whatever you think of the comic style. It will be the first SWORD publication since the new story and illustration in the custom TV21 a good few years ago.
Many of Gerry Anderson's famous comic strips have found new life in complete collected editions from his son's company, Anderson Entertainment, and I hope that this kickstarter may one day lead to interest in a hardback collection of the much less well-known Project SWORD strips, which featured in SOLO and TV21 comics.
Here's to a fair wind behind this brave new campaign.
What do you think?

Thanks to Terranova47 who also gave me the heads-up.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I don't favour the new look at all. SWORD is not about pistol packing, gun-toting astronauts blasting everything in sight and the style of the revamped ships is appalling. SWORD was a more cerebral, thought-provoking story, which although in the most part was quite dismal and negative, would sit well in todays economic and political climate. The basic premise is the same, with a meteor strike destabilising Earth, but the style of the new comic seems to suggest a more frantic, guns blazing type of action story. Why they needed to re-design all the vehicles and the logo, is beyond me - they were perfectly suited to the story and futuristic enough to be re-used. The same fate befell the New Captain Scarlet, which dumped Mike Trims iconic designs for something that looked like it was from a Playstation game. I would expect this will receive the same lukewarm reception as the abortive Gemini Force series has as the parent company is clearly struggling for new ideas. Bill
ReplyDeleteI reckon this will really be headed 'down the tubes'!
ReplyDeleteI want to give this a chance so I'll follow the campaign. Let's face it, SWORD isn't a massive deal like Thunderbirds so any new development is a bonus. There's a chance of a hardback comic too in the spirit of the Annual. I wish the publishing team well.
