I'm chuffed to bits as I've just bagged this snazzy blue 2001 NASA Space Glider for my fleet.
I first saw one about a year ago and now, I'm pleased to say, a good example is on its way to MoonBase from Austria as we sprach.
Here's a picture of a similar blue one in a minty box. Mine's not as good but I'm thrilled nonetheless.
This means I'm now just three* short of a complete collection. As always when collecting anything the "missing" ones are the hardest to find and these are no exception!
With Spirit of America and flame livery, the elusive three all came in a box unlike the rest, a photo cover box depicting a sort of launch bay.
Here they are: white, orange and green.
*
* Technically I'm also missing a variation of the elusive Space Tract. Normally a grey MEGO model, the missing version is a very rare orange Hover Space Tract.
*If I'm being picky I'm also missing an American Tarheel version of the grey British Century 21 Space Glider, but they're essentially the same toy.

What a groovy collection you must have! These are based on the old "Dyna-Soar" concept design, are they not? I never knew it had such a big production run in so many permutations - very cool . SFZ
ReplyDeleteThanks SF, I think you're right. The design gradually morphed into the real world Space Shuttle. It's been fun collecting the gliders and I'm not sure I'll get the 'launch bay' trip. I've me er seen them again since those photographs online decades ago!
DeleteTrip? Trio.
DeleteYoure goind to need another attic at this rate! Having seen the existing Glider fleet last summer, its a big fleet already!
ReplyDeleteI know. It's turned I to quite a big collection after all!
DeleteGreat addition to your collection, Woodsy. I believe the design is based on the Northrop M2-F2 Lifting Body, seen also in the opening sequence of the Six Million Dollar Man tv series.
ReplyDeleteThanks Arto. It's been fun to collect and it all started with a £20 Project SWORD Space Glider bought at an evening toy fair in 1989!
DeleteThat's SUPER Woodsy! It looks terrific and it's always a thrill getting HTF items for the collection.
ReplyDeleteHey cheers Ed and great to hear from you. Hope Santa is gearing up for a long visit to Las Vegas!
