The island of Taiwan has a long proud history of toy manufacture.
Here's three space toys from the former Formosa.
See what you think readers?
The Super Jet Car. It looks chunky.
The Machine Cop. You do not want to mess with this guy!
The most ambitious of the three here and with echoes of Gatchaman, the Dolphin II.
I really like the look of this. You?

Eh, this is all 70s/80s era junk. The real beauties from Hong Kong were the tin, and/or plastic toys of the 1960s - a veritable wonderland of crazy joy. As you should know, "Mr. JR21!" Seeing the words "Made in Hong Kong" on a toy brought pure ecstacy to me as a kid and young teen. SFZ
ReplyDelete...that was my opinion at the time too.
ReplyDeleteBut seeing them through the lens of things past, they do have a distinctive quality of their own.
Those 80's airbrushed typefaces and graphics are such an indicator the the period.
And yes, Woodsy I see what you mean about the Dolphin II looking like Jinpei's G4 swallow plane!
