Ok, so my thoughts on the color rarities, of my 6 Triang/Spacex models, 3 are the early models with the separate tail fins and all 3 are yellow top. Of my other 3 which are later models with the molded in tail fins, 2 are yellow tops, 1 is green top. So that seems to indicate the green top models are more rare. I have a Golden Astronaut version, sealed on unpunched card that is also the green top.
The only downside on my loose green top is it has 1 wheel missing on a rear landing gear but displays well and could be fixed if you have a spare wheel. So yeah, I'm willing to part with it. pic: https://64.media.tumblr.com/2da28826c889b9479eac9bcfca49b4f8/0ae447532e262d83-e2/s1280x1920/d9282fc53fadd37bcc08dc6b4040d2f56e69d7f9.jpg I can send more pics if desired.
Also a Security Copter body (found while I was at it) with good sticker but no rotor (I'm short on those) and rear undercarriage that needs a bit of glue (broken but all there). If interested drop me a mail and I'll send some pics.
As to the rarity topic, neither colour combination should be more rare than the other. The parts will have come from a single mould and the bodies swapped round to have the two colour combinations (either with separate fins or moulded into the body). Ditto for Mobile Moon HQs. Much easier and economical to produce that way. I might concede a difference in surviving examples - perhaps the yellow-topped examples sold better at the time and thus more got played to pieces. We'd need a survey to have sufficient numbers as a base for a reasonable assessment. :)
Sorry I didn't have one Kev.
ReplyDeleteAppreciate you looking, thanks. I've got a few but none in that configuration, I wonder if some were more common than others?
ReplyDeleteI’ll check my stashes. I’ve got several of them in opposite colors and a few on cards I think. I’ll look in the morning.
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated.

Thanks for this Lance. I'll double check Kev's seen it.
DeleteSorry Kev, I only have one of them - no spares.
ReplyDeleteThanks anyway.
DeleteBit late, sorry. I can spare one, Kevin.
