Digging into Helsinki Base(ment), I took this photo of my Tri-ang Minic Interplanetary Research Unit Presentation Set. The box set is quite impressive, measuring 48 x 36 x 4 cm.
That is possibly the most beautiful set of space-related toys I have ever seen, with a glorious box to die for. One of those sublime cultural artifacts you almost can't believe ever existed. Wow wow wow. SFZ
“quite impressive” ? thats quite the understatement! Those rocket launchers were used later on the Triang Hornby Rocket Launcher wagon and then again in the Battlespace line. A lovely set and most impressive to see it complete! Bill
Hello! Off Topic comment to bring to your attention that Matteline67 has put up another video on YouTube in his "Fantasy Model Kits" series, featuring the vehicles from UFO.
Great stuff! https://youtu.be/zN4gxQZGS0o?si=twM6OCoJf21xJFYd
I was out in The Cave last week and guess what I found Arto? A NIB TootsieToy set with an F-16 fighter jet and airfield vehicles! The thing is still in its original wrapper. I forgot I had it and once I'm finished with a couple of other projects here, I'm gonna photograph it and do some airfield diorama photos!
It always brings to mind the Quatermass Experiment or X The Unknown, what with the rockets and radar trucks. Doesn't Quatermass work for the British Interplanetary Research Group? Fab stuff as always Arto from the ever-drool-making Helsinki collection!
Wow, that is an amazing set. Beautiful condition. A real treasure.

ReplyDeleteThanks guys. I've tried to stick to plastic space toys, but this set was simply unmissable when it came up for sale some years ago.

Thanks Scott. Paul A from NZ alerted me to this as well so I'll do a post and get it highlighted again.
DeleteThat is one heckuva set Arto! The non-missile firing trucks would be great for an airfield diorama.
ReplyDeletetheres a blue RAF set with just planes and field vehicles too Ed!
