I was reading an imdb list of Sci Fi TV programmes in the 1960's. I was amazed how many not only have I not seen but never heard of! How about you?
It may be that I recall more from the 1970's, which I'll check now.
Blimey, it was just as bad! So many I don't know! See how you get on!
One observation, the Ark II vehicle mentioned - is that the same land train used in Damnation Alley?
I know most of these Woodsy.
ReplyDeleteThe most unfamiliar ones are naff US sitcoms I think.
'Raumpatroille' is a black and white German TV series that only lasted six or so episodes, I believe.
A shame as, although dated, it had some good concepts and quite sophisticated SFX.
'Raumpatrouille Orion' is fascinating. It was a mini-series of seven episodes, and was phenomenally popular in Germany to the point where the theme came to be played at major social events. Despite this, a second series was never made because there was concern, in the post-Nazi era, of the militaristic nature of the organisation at its heart. The only English-language version available is a 2003 feature film -- "Rücksturz ins Kino" -- assembled from a number of episodes. There are several fascinating websites devoted to the show out there, and some great clips on YouTube.
DeleteI have seen a number of these, and at least heard of most of the others, but there are a number I am not familiar with. I watched The Jetsons, My Favourite Martian, Lost in Space, The Time Tunnel, Fantastic Voyage, and The Invaders. I think Land of the Giants might not have been on until a bit later ? But I only discovered It's About Time recently, thanks to Rob Craig.
ReplyDeleteI was pretty amazed to see The Second Hundred Years counted as science fiction ?
In the second group I watched Timeslip, Star Trek Animated, The Tomorrow People, Planet of the Apes, Survivors, The Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman, The Fantastic Journey, Sapphire and Steel, and the great Logan's Run. But Mork and Mindy ? Still, Mork did arrive in a spaceship.
I guess Mork and Mindy counts, as Mork is an alien? Never thought of it as Sci-Fi tho. Long live Its About Time! And to me the 60s was the decade of Irwin Allen TV! Planet of the Apes cartoon was cool. SFZ
ReplyDeleteThe Ark 2 and the Landmaster from Damnation Alley were separate designs.
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing the Landmaster parked in Gene Winfield's custom car lot. It was standing alongside two TV Logan's Run cars. This was during my visit to the States in the mid 80's.
