Woodsy and Moonbasers,
Today we have another tin-litho F-104 Starfighter jet, this time from the Japanese firm of Bandai.
The Starfighter was among my favorite airplanes and trying to find vintage tin-litho toys in decent shape for an affordable price has become a challenge. I'm going to make an educated guess that this toy was probably made around the '61-'63 time frame.
Sporting the ubiquitous removable wing with friction motor, it appears as if it also had a sparkling feature. Measuring 6 1/2" (16.5cm) L x 4 1/4" (10.8cm) wingspan it is of course just a caricature, lacking that long, thin rocket-like fuselage of the prototype.
This toy probably had a rubber tip on the nose which is missing but it does have the obligatory friction motor with sparkling device.

Another great toy from the world of tinplate. Thanks for the photos.
ReplyDeleteThanx Paul! I have a 'few' more to share :-)
DeleteWhat a beautiful tin treasure. The litho on classic tin makes these toys real art, imho. I’m impressed you are able to find and collect these toy treasures. I own no tin at all, but if I had to do it all over again… SFZ
ReplyDeleteI grew up during the Age of Tin and as a collector was always enamored of the craftsmanship that went into it. It's never too late to start collecting - bargains are still out there! :-)
DeleteI think the ship has sailed on my starting a tin collection, for several reasons, so folks like you who archive and share these toys are a treasure to me - many thanks! SFZ
DeleteSuch a futuristic jet and name to go with it! Starfighter! Wow! A great little tin jet Ed . Your toy hangar just keeps growing!
