This caught my eye online.
Shooting Star friction race car by Camel, a company I've not heard of before.
Sadly there were no pics of the toy on Yahoo Japan, just the cool box, although I may have seen this in kit form.
The toy looks very sleek and almost Project SWORD-like.
It's got that Land Speed Record vibe going on.
There's a whiff of other toys here too, Hoover's Space Racer and the X-series X50. Maybe even Project SWORD's Task Force 2 in car-form.
Here's the kit I was talking about, the green one bottom left by Otaki. The brown one next to it is the forerunner of SWORD's probe Force 3.
Anyone got one?
thats nice, id certainly like one!
ReplyDeleteThere was a whole subgenre of "rocket racing cars" at the time, although I never saw this particular one. Years back, I sent you pix of a "Firebird 009" model from LS of Japan, which was a similar design, a Formula 1 racing car with jet engines, wings and missiles. If I can dig up the pix, I'll send them along again for you to compare. LS had a line of three "Rocket Racers," but this was the only one I was ever able to snag. Cooler than cool, anyhow!
ReplyDeleteI remember that model on your site Zigg. It looked ace.
DeleteNever had one. The closest I got was using the nose and a few other parts of the Micronauts' Mobile Exploration Lab toy. Some pics here https://www.innerspaceonline.com/mel.htm and https://i.pinimg.com/originals/29/d1/aa/29d1aa7d698d50a80c4141fc55b718d5.jpg
ReplyDeleteWonder what your creation looked like Lance? Never got into micronauts. Never knew about them when I was a teenager either. Too busy headbanging to Rush I think.
