I have a feeling we've seen this before but here goes, an LP I saw in a charity shop.
Just what are those model ships on the sleeve?

Thats a great cover. Probably Revell models, given the scale and level of detail. I love the lines of tracer fire that they have made with glittery wire! I might have to steal that idea! Bill
ReplyDeleteCoolio!
DeleteVictory at Sea (1952-53) was a documentary series on naval operations in World War 2. It looks like the London Philharmonic Orchestra record was released in 1961, and was a US release.
ReplyDeleteThe photograph on the album sleeve is really terrible, but here is my attempt at identification of the models. I can not be sure if these are correct.
Looking at the aircraft carrier, this seems to be the Revell kit of a modernised Essex-class carrier in 1/530th scale, with the post-war angled flight deck (instead of the deck running bow to stern, as in WW2; it was angled diagonally across the ship). It has a separate deck lift/elevator in the centre of the forward deck, two raised objects (jet blast deflectors ?) behind this, and a row of six aerials just ahead of the island superstructure. Revell issued this kit as several different members of the class.
The vessel on the left might be the Revell Fletcher-class destroyer in 1/301st scale. Again, this was released as several different members of the class over the years.
The ship on the right might be another Fletcher ?
Fantastic observations Paul. Between Bill and yourself you e nailed it. I quite like this LP cover.
