Some things a worth the wait.
Even a long one.
This one took me more than a decade!
The Satellite money box was made by a Finnish money box manufacturer MK-tuote in the early 1960's and was probably one of their first designs.
Even though there are at least five colour variants and an illustrated box it came in, they very rarely come up for sale.
Complete examples are even more hard to find as the soft plastic antennas are detachable and there is a separate clear plastic display stand too.
The orb measures 9 cm in diameter.
Hope you like it.

Wow, that is an absolute beauty. You must have a damn fine collection of space money boxes now Arto!
ReplyDeleteIt's loosely based on the first successful American Vanguard Satellite, which after several embarrassing failures, was put into orbit in response to the Soviet Sputnik. https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20171005-the-worlds-oldest-scientific-satellite-is-still-in-orbit

A thing of beauty, and a great find.
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul, couldn't agree more. Glad you like it.
DeleteThanks for the info Bill. Yes, I believe I know own at least one of each of the space money bank models given to customers in Finland, but the variations are countless because each bank had its name printed on them!
ReplyDeleteWonder if the banks still have some in their store rooms?
DeleteThat would be wonderful, but those banks and their offices are long gone. But maybe some bank clerks have put some examples away and they will resurface, from estates at the latest.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope so.
