Being an erstwhile guitarist who still owns the 2 electric guitars from my youth, both cheap but meaningful, I always have a gander at guitars whenever I can.
Some people collect guitars and you will need deep pockets, the deepest, if you want rarity over availability. I just have the two I had as a kid.
Still its always a thrill to see what rich kids can get for their spondoolies. Here's the nine rarest electric guitars in the world.

As an aside, back in the late 1970's there were a few talented young guitarists in my home town of Preston. One of them was Nick Dias and he was slick as anything on the frets. He's lived stateside for decades and worked at Norman's Rare Guitars for years. Nick gets to handle some of the world's finest. Back in the 70's I borrowed Nick's fab mandolin!
Oddly as a drummer I'm fascinated by guitars and the more oddball the better, I have a customer with a high end music shop and he always has a story about a purchase made either for himself or his shop, a good example is the Stratosphere twin neck guitar, I believe it's featured on the track "Stratosphere Boogie" by Jimmy West and Speedy Bryant,it's a bonkers instrumental and this model had passed through his shop, then of course I had to trump the story with a triple necked guitar I had heard of the belonged to Gene Vincent, he didn't play guitar but had to have it, it's previous owner was the fella that wrote "She She Sheila"
ReplyDeleteThanks for [machine] heads-up MJ, I love that triple-neck tale. I looked it up and there's a great article on it on this blog by Deke Dickerson. Fascinating. One of a kind. I wonder where it is? http://muleskinner.blogspot.com/2011/05/johnny-meeks-forgotten-triple-neck.html
DeleteYep Deke is a friend of a friend of mine, and one of his drummers Chris (Sugar-Balls) Sprague and I share a boozie party piece that when we've been drinking heavily we both think is funny after 1am!!
DeleteHa, what a small world MJ. You're at the twangy heart of the guitar world! I wonder what your boozy antics are? ha ha. No need to say.
DeleteThere's a clue in Chris's nickname and it's been at least 12 years since I did this and pictures are still emerging on Facebook and what's great is after all these years no one is still sure exactly what I did
DeleteOh blimey! One lump or two Sir!
DeleteOnly ever one lump and that's what confused people, never the meat, only one of the veg!!! I could say the drink made me do it but I had the tricky job of doing the offensive thing without getting arrested!!
Deleteha ha, one of the veg! classic!
