They were probably all too busy stuffing their faces with chocolate Terran! I remember them. I remember when chimps were on the TV a lot - Daktari, Tarzan and the PG Tips Chimp Tea Party and all the other ads. Mr. Shifter was my fave! Chimps have fallen out of fashion I think. Not cool anymore.
Nothing like this in NZ. What a great set. The chimp ads did screen here, but probably not until the 1980s. I do have the set of four Lledo die-cast models with the cast from one of the ads on them, and a Thames Trader truck from the Vanguards series which also had a chimp on the side. Regarding TV programmes with chimps, what about Lancelot Link - Secret Chimp, which was a send up of James Bond and Get Smart, but with an all-chimp cast. A.P.E. (Agency to Prevent Evil) battled the sinister C.H.U.M.P. (Criminal Headquarters for Underworld Master Plan). In the TV series BJ and the Bear, BJ was a truck driver, and Bear was his chimp side-kick. There have also been a few films with Orangutans.
Nobody remembered these?
