Looey's Back at Bowral's Dirty Janes

Hello Moonbasers!

I've posted pics of the vintage toys at Dirty Jane's emporium in Bowral NSW Oz before..

It's a little depressing to see the genuine antique stuff sold on and replaced with modern repro items.

Still, here are some genuine articles at "Tell 'em they're dreaming" prices!

Some Jet Set diecast civil aircraft.
Some nice Hong Kong carded coin purses and a lovely tinplate space capsule...

I'm down here again to celebrate the 90th birthday of my longest friend, Babette Hayes the Interior Designer. She was instrumental in getting my parents to emigrate from Blighty to Oz, as some of the last "Ten Pound Poms"!

My life would never be the same again, but it's been a fortunate one.

As a present, I made a sculptured portrait of the two of us on our ritual visits to the local modern art gallery.

The figures are painted Sculpey polyclay.

The second shot is with the pink LED "neon" lighting active!

Happy times!

Camping Toys Anyone?

We've just returned from a jolly old camping trip with the Grandkids in Wharfedale.

I've realized that there aren't really many toys associated with camping are there.

As a kid I had a survival adventure set from Thomas Salter - binoculars, water flask, etc - shown here in my old catalogue bottom right.

 - which the Grandson had a sort of modern version with him this time. His camo tarp came in handy as a makeshift awning!

Not so PC now would be the camping knife I had in a sheath back in the late Sixties. It had a bone handle or maybe green and silver striped. There may have been a compass on top. It's as murky as a Mozzy net.

I did have an Action Man tent. I recall it had a green plastic frame and a green canvas for the fighting fella to rest up in. It was great fun setting it up in the garden.

The superb Action Man HQ has fab photos of the 1973 tent.

Major Matt had a blow-up lunar bivouac too. Callisto was always a waking in first and Captain Lazer's legs would have stuck out for sure!

Did you have any camping toys or adventure gear?
