My mother used to make this, although she called it French Toast! It was made with slices of crusty white farm loaf and there was nothing like it! Years later in Oz, I sometimes made it as a Sunday morning treat for the mussus, but as we always ate Wholemeal, it was never the same!
The cheese is a great idea but Marmites a deal breaker! Just remembered how good Bovril tasted as a hot drink. Had it after going swimming with school at the Preston public baths cafe. Warming!
Yes! I remember the drinks after swimming from those awful machines. The Bovril, Vegetable sort of drink. They kids probably drink smoothies now if they ever go swimming.

Yes, french toast is the posh name Looey! 😂 Eggy Bread is the other street name. Yep, it needs trashy bread to taste real I agree.
DeleteNo, but I've made banana and custard a couple of times in the last two weeks. We had it when we were kids and I just fancied some

DeleteI have this on a regular basis - its even better with a little cheese mixed in the egg mix and a spread of marmite on top! MMm Bill
