MOON RED BUGGY

I've always liked the large Spanish version of the SpaceX Moon Buggy.

Most of the examples I've seen are light blue but now and then I see this cool red version.

Do you like it?

MISTER FROG

Mister Frog is our new Lockdown friend.

He or indeed she has moved into "1 Old Sink Street" at the top of our garden!

We chat about stuff. Socially distanced of course!

Any book we mention he usually says reddit!

Have you got any garden mates?

A Divers Selection

Next to my love of deep space is the deep sea and as a result, submarines! As its difficult to keep myself entertained during these difficult times, I decided to get out some of my collection for another run on the blog. Probably one of the largest in my collection is the wonderful National Geographic Ocean Explorer, with a neat articulated figure, about the same scale as Matt Mason. The sub has a large pair of grabbing claws on the front, operated by means of a cleverly designed had grip in the shape of an air tank.

The diver figure is also available separately in a wetsuit with a sea scooter. There's lovely attention to detail and the accessories such as depth gauge, flippers and knife are all well made. The sub comes with some buried treasure to discover and the diver has a nasty looking shark to contend with.

Matchbox regularly make a submarine in their toy line and along with the pod from Jurassic World, there is a nice array of different submersibles.

Not to be outdone, Hot Wheels also included an unusual submarine in their range. As ever, they come in several colour variations.

Finally, we stick with Mattel for the Sea Devils Rick Riley figure. From the same stable as Matt Mason, the Sea Devils were a range of rubber divers with a wire armature like Matt, making them poseable.  Rick also share some of Matts equipment, such as the chemical tank which has been converted to an oxygen tank. Rick has lost his helmet along the way since 1970 and is also waiting on a new motor unit for his sea scooter, but looks well for his age!

MILO SPOONS

Hi Woodsy

Still looking at some of the Laura Legends clips on You Tube.

She seems to be into dinosaurs, superheroes, and other 'boy' toys rather than 'girl' toys - just no kits or diecasts so far. Several of her videos are of her opening up boxes of goodies that various people have sent her.

This one shows a set of three Jurassic World dinosaur spoons made by Nestle, as part of a Milo drink promotion. Not sure if these ever made it to NZ - I have not had a Milo in many years.

But I thought this would be of interest to you, given your interest in dinosaurs, if you had not seen them before. The spoons appear just past the eight minute mark, with a close-up shortly after.

Yours Sincerely,

THE 30 RAREST ACTION FIGURES

If like me you love action figures then this may interest you, the top 30 rarest.

I know rarity and value are not that important to many collectors and I certainly can't afford to be choosy anymore - although I do own one of them, number 16 - but the thought that these scarce treasures are still out there is alluring nonetheless.

So, one of the many such lists online, here's one I liked from the Gamer:

CREATURE CASTLE EXPLAINED

I was once a real avid collector of monster and creepy games like Creature Castle.

I was thrilled when I chanced upon a Creature Castle at a car boot sale. Like most of my monster games I sold it on. I never had it as a kid nor did I have a Dark Shadows, which I've never seen in the flesh. It looks great too!

Anyways, this You Tube video by Destructarr maybe of interest to those of you interested in old monster games like me. I've cut out the video's intro.

Did you/ do you have any monster or creepy board games?

Lone Star Rising

SC5 ROCKET TRANSPORT
As we have seen the Lone Star Modern Army series on the blog recently, I thought I would fetch out my LS Space Commander series of vehicles from 1983. Issued just be before Lone Star went to the wall, these were the compaies attempt to jump on the space bandwagon rolling by in the wake of Star Wars.
A basic casting and the re-use of the existing weapons, meant they could be cheaply produced. The radar scanner on the Galactic Scanner gives an indication of their provenance, with the fifties style of open mesh dish, used on the early Modern Army trucks. The Solar activator was missing the searchlight attachment, so this one is a custom. I also came across another green truck without a payload, so I added a Meccano rocket launcher instead!

SC3 SOLAR ACTIVATOR

JUNK JETSAM JET CAR

Searching for the Floatster, which I didn't find, I came across this junkpile floater by Yuri Ostr instead.

Being of the junk heap persuasion it appealed to me! I love those fanta bottle tyes!

Waddaya think?

AIRFIX GRAVEYARD

I keep finding bundles of old toys in my attic. here's a group of embattled oldtimers, mostly by Airfix.

I think I bought these on Doncaster Keepmoat car boot sale about two years ago, along with a really nice Red Knight of Vienna model. It was packing up time and the seller wanted rid.

Have you oldtimer kits like this? Its not something I would have liked as a kid, I was never into Yesteryear for instance. Don't know why not. Much preferred Whizzwheels and Superfast! I was also never a kit-builder as a kid so Airfix wasn't on my agenda, unless it was their plastic soldiers!

So anyways, here are my beat-up mouldy oldtimers: not in order  -

Rolls Royce 1911, Airfix Green Rolls Royce, Airfix Lanchester 1907, Airfix Green Bentley 1930, Airfix Ford Red 1910, Airfix Grey Car and unknown Tank.

Masudaya Floatster 12: Japanese style Explorer 12?

I love this Japanese Masudaya Floatster 12 toy from 1987. I assume it can float as well as crawl over stuff. Those tyres look like foan rubber.

Is it a type of Explorer 12 toy inspired by the BHS range of the 80's?

Check out this retail box with two colour variations.

What do you think?

BOXES OF SPACE

LP sets out of the boxes on Worthpoint.

Nice little group.

Have you got any?

THE SEARS MOUNTAIN MOVER SHOVEL

Over the past year or so I've begun to notice this beautiful toy.

The Mountain Mover Shovel.

The box art is a masterpiece.

And the toy.

I mean, wow!

It was a Sears exclusive like the Moon Mobile Rocket Launcher and the Turnpike Van Trailer and many more in a staggeringly gorgeous series of tinplate toys, which seem to sum up the future in their sleek angles and big ideas.

I don't have any, I didn't know about them as a kid but I adore them now.

And the Mountain Mover Shovel is one of my faves.

This example was on Worthpoint.

Were you or are you lucky enough to own a Sears exclusive?

You can see more clicking on the labels below.

MYSTERY SPACE CAR SPACESHIP FOUND!

The other day I mused about this mystery brown space ship and how I'd seen a blue and red one years ago.

Well with some concentrated googling I found what I was looking for on the Wayback Machine Zoomer Toys Sold page!

Its called the Space Car and here it is in all its blue and red glory, complete with gorgeous box!

I imagine its very collectable. I want one!

As is the way I then found another unboxed example on Worthpoint from 2014, which is described as a '60s Plastic Friction Flash Gordon Style Space Car X-20. Blue with red and white fittings and blue glass.

No makers name. Marked on one lower side is No.226 Made In Hong Kong. Strong running friction motor with siren driving the rear wheels.

I must say I prefer the blue and red toy much more than the brown one.

Do you?

UPDATE!

Reader Charlie Starkey in the US has sent in pics of his actual Space car toy!

Woodsy, here's my ebay find of that 'Mystery Plastic Spaceship' thingy you posted on Saturday 23 May.

One side has the letters 'SPACE CAR' embossed near the bulbous top, and 'Hong Kong, No.226' on the lower skirt section. A previous owner repainted the rear end red disc black and broke off the lights and a small front wheel!

P.S. it had a friction motor underneath!

Sad to hear that Suzanne Roquette who played Moonbase Alpha operative, Tanya Alexander in the first season of Space:1999 has passed away.

Our sincere condolences to her family.

SILBURY HILL

When I was a teenager I was thoroughly into mystic Britain and mystic sites around the world. Being the Seventies I wasn't alone and there were magazines and loads of books on the subject. Folk horror abounded on TV and rock bands were steeped in the old lore.

I even wrote a load of mystic songs for a band and one of them was about Silbury Hill, the legendary resting place of King Arthur and his round table of Knights.

I found this long article on Silbury Hill and thought I'd post it on case anyones interested in old hippy stuff like this!

Do you like this kind of thing? Did you as a teenager?

ROCKET SHARPENER

I liked this sleek red pencil sharpener rocket I saw on Worthpoint.

It recalls the SpaceX NOVA toy a little.

Wotan has one in his collection and has blogged it before.

Has anyone got any space-related  or sci-fi or monster pencil sharpeners?

SITTING IN A BUBBLE

I always lobed bubble cars.

I always wanted to drive one but never got the chance.

Not even sure if I had a toy one but here are two examples of plastic Isettas.

An Empire Made version.

and the Lincoln version.

Do you like bubble cars?

Anyone got one, toy or real life?

FRANKONIA EAGLE LEM

I saw this for the first time this week. On Worthpoint.

An Action Model LM ‘Eagle’, #48-23814.

The plastic and metal string-pull toy was made in Japan in 1969. It has the Frankonia Toys seal of approval.

The ‘Eagle’ Lunar Module launches upward and lands at various speeds as you pull the string. It is approximately 5 ¼” tall and is decorated with American flag and NASA decals.

It lands at various speeds at your simple string pull. The radar spins during landing. Measures about 51/4" tall. Sports an American flag paper decal on plastic body and casted NASA symbol on metal body.

The box bottom has a label that reads #48-23814 Made in Japan. There is also an outside protective corrugated four-sided packing box

You seen one before?
